The animated version was so dynamic. This Looks like a play of the movie instead of the animated movie come to life. Maybe some things are better left a cartoon.

That's a problem with these remakes. Some of them are too faithful and respectful to the original film instead of doing its own thing while still being respectful and faithful.

Live-action doesn’t have the dynamics that animation has. Thus it looks much tamer by comparison.

To me, " ALADDIN" just isn't the same without Robin Williams. LOL I've been quoting that Genie character for many many years and I still do. So many good lines that were both funny and also showed a lot of emotion. Did you wake me up? did you rub my lamp? did you bring me here? and now all of a sudden you're walking out on me I don't think so you're getting your wishes so sit down! I'm history! Nah nah I'm mythology, no I don't know what I am I'm freeeeeeeee! Well you've lied to everybody else I was starting to feel left out. What would I wish for? nobody's ever asked me that before Enough about you talk about her! |

I don't think Aladdin or Jasmine look too bad but I'm disappointed in the Genie and Jafar. Visually it looks confused. Say what you want about the previous Disney remakes, they all had their own style and tone and the trailers advertised that. Maleficient was a dark fantasy feminist manifesto; Cinderella was a classy costume drama; The Jungle Book was an action-adventure yarn; and Beauty and the Beast was a fairy-tale musical. This, I'm not sure what they're doing. Granted, it's only a minute's worth of footage. But this comes out in 3 months and I doubt those effects are unfinished.

I get it's supposed to be live action, but making the genie sort of CGI/sort of live action doesn't look right. They should have just made it the genie full on CGI and just have Will Smith as the voice actor

Yeah the character really played into Williams strengths though. All the Crazy different voices and Impressions and the range of emotions. Will Smith is a great actor he's very funny but he's not exactly known for doing impressions or voices or any of the Genie's characteristics. |
