Who knows, but one things for sure... that movie is overrated like Fincher movies are in general.

Who knows, but one things for sure... that movie is overrated like Fincher movies are in general. I like Fincher's work, but I agree that this and Fight Club, while good films, aren't the masterpieces that people make them out to be. For the case of this film, I don't think it gets really compelling until John Doe shows up. Before that, and while it's entertaining enough to keep interest, it feels like standard police mystery stuff with the retiring cop going on one last assignment to stop a major killer.

Maybe, but I think Pitt is the better choice of the two. As big as Pitt is, relative to Cruise it's easier to forget it's him in his roles. Tom shines through more as himself, which is not what was wanted/needed for this role.
