We have had plenty of best, how about a bad one. Made it lifetime so it wouldn't come down to having to personally seen them. And a reasonable timeframe. Not here to discuss the 1899 Cleveland Spiders or the 1920 Muncie Flyers
MLB - 2003 Detroit Tigers. The '18 O's gave them a run for thier money but it's still the Toothless Tigers. 43-119, and had to win five of the last six to avoid reaching/passing 120 losses and the 1962 Mets, famed for being an utterly incompetent team.
NFL - The 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I seen the "76 "Yucks" and the 2008 Winless Lions. The Lions would have won by 60. Yes, the Bucs were expansion, but, fuck, were they bad. One of my favorite quotes by TB HC John McKay. When asked about his teams execution, he said "I'm all for it".
NHL - 2013-14 Buffalo Sabres. Devoid of enough talent for a team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. God. I felt bad for Ryan Miller. He had more shot at him than Sonny Corleone.The next year was as bad, but it had a purpose, bad as it was, "Tanking for Conner McDavid". And they couldn't get that right.

NFL: 2000 San Diego Chargers were bad! Their running game was the lowest in NFL history of the 16 game era.
NFL: 2002 The Bengals were the worst in franchise history. Like the Chargers two years earlier, there were a couple of games they were winning but choked away. They finished 2-14
NFL: 2017 New York Giants. Injuries and ineptitude destroyed them. Finishing 3-13, their worst record in the 16 game era.

NHL - 1992-93 Senators... stumbled out of the gate as a franchise doesn't even do it justice.
MLB - 1988 Orioles... started the season 0-21. That's f'n near impossible in MLB, what with other teams also just getting into gear.
NBA - 1998-99 Grizzlies... .160 winning percentage, shame that Vancouver's life in the NBA was so forgettable.
NFL - 1990 Patriots... 1-15, utterly the least competitive, least intimidating NFL squad I've ever known.

1993 Sydney Swans 1-19 joined with the 1992 team to set an all time AFL record for consecutive losses: 26. Both their 1992 wins were away from home and their sole win in 93 was in Melbourne, meaning the team went two full seasons without singing the team song at home.
Low point came when they were beaten by 168 points in Round 8. Who beat them? A powerhouse of AFL football? Nope. Surely a team who played finals that year? Nope.
It was against the 4-16 Brisbane Bears. Who finished 3rd bottom.

2002 Carlton Football Club 3-19. You have a list jam packed with premiership players and All-Australians. So jam packed you've spent double over the salary cap to bring them all together. You win 3 games. 3 fucking games. In Round 19 they led the Bulldogs 63-7 at quarter time and won by 1 point. Next week they lost by 108 points to arch rivals Collingwood. The win clinched Collingwood their first finals series in 7 years and guaranteed Carlton their first wooden spoon in 106 years of existence.
And just to make it all the more historically bad: spending double over the cap meant they lost all draft picks for the next 3 years. 3 rebuilds and 17 years later they are still only winning 3 or 4 games a year. There you have it folks a year so bad it ruined a team for an entire generation. Beat that if you can.

I'm truly shocked that the name Rich Kotite has not come up yet. Maybe other teams were statistically worse, but Rich Kotite's Jets were definitely the worst coached team I've ever seen.
The Lions team that went winless deserves a spot for sure. Yeah, the expansion Bucs sucked, but that was a brand new team. The Lions had about 7 decades to come up with a winless team. Plus, was that the team that had a coach drive naked thru a Burger King drive thru window?

2012 Red Sox - Train wreck of a last place finish you could see coming a mile away with the terrible hiring of Bobby V
1990 Patriots - Completely inept in every imaginable way, finished 1-15.
1996-97 Celtics - 15-67, tanked for Duncan and it didn't work. By the way, the season has possibly the most depressing wiki entry for any team's season:
Bruins - 2009-10 They made the playoffs, but I don't care what anyone says, going up 3-0 in a playoff series and losing is inexcusable. (The good news is they rebounded and won the cup the next season. Redemption.)

The Phillies won the pennant in 1993. From 1994 to about when they started getting good again in 2006, there were some putrid teams.
For the Eagles, the Rich Kotite era, the last year of Andy Reid, and the last year of Chip Kelly were pretty terrible.
After Allen Iverson and Larry Brown the Sixers were pretty bleak all around, and the process years shouldn’t even count they were so bad.
Fuck the Flyers.

A few years ago it looked to be certain that Jonathan Quick would be the leader one day. Less certain now but still a possibility. |
