Suing the Devil is a 2011 film staring and produced by Malcolm McDowell. Its a film that actually sounds like it could be odd fun. Malcolm McDowell is a damn fine actor and does what he can in this film. Its like Jack Nicholson in The Witches of Eastwick or Al Pachino in The Devil's Advocate. Its that kind of Devil. McDowell looks like hes having a blast playing the Devil. The film also stars Corbin Bernsen and Tom Sizemore. Tom Sizemore is also fun to watch. Its because not its a good performance its because it looks like he is fighting off sleeping pills. It looks like hes close to passing out every scene hes in.
The thing is despite the fun performance, this movie is awful. The film is about a law student who gets mad at Satan and and whats to sue him for 8 trillion dollars. As dumb as that sounds Satan himself shows up with his team of lawyers to defend himself. The film almost has a good conversation but it either changes the subject or gives an awful answer. This could have had some really creative and good dialog about religion or evil but it takes the easy way out. No creativity allowed here. Its about as basic as you can get. Its get really boring fast and then turns into horrible propaganda. It left me feeling down. As if the propaganda part was no bad enough the lead actor who plays the lawyer (Bart Bronson) is a horrible actor and gives a horrible performance. Bad acting does not usually bother me but this one did. That is saying something. Its really a bad film. Its like Saturday Night Live skit that goes on for too long and gets old fast.
Just stick with A Clockwork Orange.
Anyone see this film?

This turd sounds like a colossal stinker, but here's a quartet to check out if they escaped you ... hit me up if you need pre-2000 McDowell recs 'cos I'm your man.
'The Barber' (2001 - Michael Bafaro) 'Inhabited' (2003 - Kelly Sandefur)
'Pact With The Devil' (2004 - Allan A. B. Goldstein)
'The Book Of Eli' (2010 - Hughes Brothers)

I seen Inhabited and The Barber but it is when they were pretty new. I recall them but not very well.

The only thing that I myself remember about Malcolm McDowell is that he killed Captain Kirk in " STAR TREK: GENERATIONS".

LOL, Now wait a second!
I am a Trekkie as well, I have been my whole life.
Having said that, I definitely wouldn't have sent death threats to anybody. That was just Terrible what those people did to McDowell.

Malcolm McDowell should have been a huge actor. But the booze and some colossal bad choices (Caligula) ruined him. I've seed only a handful of movies he's been in, but he's shined in every role. Clockwork Orange, Time After Time, the Star Trek movie (I'm no Trekkie), The Artist. Well, every one but Caligula and I guess he was interesting at least.

He didn't kill Kirk though--Kirk fell off "the bridge." Supposedly he shot him in the back in the original shot version but it never reached theaters.
The idea for this sounds good--too bad the execution appears to fall short. Made me think of The Devil and Daniel Webster.
THE CALLER 1987 has one hell of a twist. Just McDowell and an actress--bizarre movie. Best to watch without knowing anything about it. I saw a parody poster someone did for "Jodorowsky's Star Wars" starring McDowell as Luke...

I've never seen him in person, but McDowell lives in my old hometown (as do a lot of Hollywood types)

Good review, Nick. I myself haven't seen this movie, never even heard of it, though I admit it sounds somewhat intriguing. Based on what you said it sounds like one of those movies in which it was a great idea on paper, but failed to live up to its potential on film.
