Catwoman fell yesterday afternoon and banged up her shin, so much so that it looked broken. So a call to 911, and visit from the paramedics, and a trip to the ER. No broken bones, just a really nasty hematoma. They wrapped it up and said to see her PMCP in the morning.
Unfortunately, at home, the pain was such that she couldn't transfer from the car to her wheelchair, and since it was 0o F, another call to 911 for assistance. They got her situated in the house, and Catman made her some peanut butter toast.
The pain kept getting worse, and the bruising spread to about half her shin, so another call to 911, another trip to the ER. They were alarmed by what they saw and sent her for a CAT scan of her leg. While waiting for the radiologist to make sense of all that, they gave her pain medications through an IV, and that cut through the pain somewhat.
Turns out that while she didn't break any bones, she did rupture a tiny artery, small enough that they cannot use the normal method for repair from inside the artery. So they put on some compression stockings and elevated her leg in hopes that things will sort themselves out without surgery.
By that time, it was 1:30 AM, and because the ER was so busy, it was going to be another hour before they got her into a room, so they sent Catman home. Awfully quiet, even with two cats trying to out purr each other. Didn't sleep much.
Planning to go to the hospital around 11:00 to take in some more things for Catwoman and stay a while. Looks like she'll be in there at least the weekend, longer if surgery is needed. And perhaps a couple weeks in physical therapy after that, since she's essentially on forced bed rest the whole time.
That's one way to make for a memorable Valentine's Day.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope Catwoman makes a full recovery!
What kind of PT are you thinking? If you're thinking that she may go inpatient somewhere for a few weeks to get her strength and mobility up, make sure the hospital doesn't have her admitted under observation. Medicare likes to play games over that kind of minutea.

Hope she gets back on her feet soon and the next Valentine's Day goes better.
Oops, just remembered the bit about the wheelchair.
Hope what I said still applies.

So the surgeon actually performed the operation in the hospital room before Catman even got there yesterday. He removed some clots and tried to stop the bleeder, and he left the wound open just in case he needed to come back. Turns out he did need to, and he tried another technique to stop the bleeder.
When Catman left for home yesterday, they still weren't certain the bleeding was done, but at least Catwoman's pain level was done from 10 to 7 (though the pain medications probably helped with that just a bit).
The other good news is that Catwoman is admitted as a in-patient for treatment (as evidenced by the fact Catman was told they didn't need the box of medications he'd brought to the emergency room). If they keep her until Monday, Medicare should pick up the cost of rehab plus the room & board (@marilynluvstigger).
And if she stays until Monday, Catman can make some more progress on the jigsaw puzzle in the family waiting area where he retires when they're doing things with Catwoman he'd rather not see. Kind of nice to work a jigsaw without needing to worry about a cat running off with the pieces.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

It sounds like Catwoman's leg will heal nicely and she'll get some help getting her strength back! I know the kitties are probably missing her though.

here is to the hope the universe takes better care of the catfamily’s well being from now on. no more broken arteries and horrible pain, universe!
we ask for more calm evenings with hot cocoa and cats running through almost finished puzzles with all their feline might and joy. also that medicare pays for all the bills. we offer out sincierest thoughts and prayers and send love and we promise to do good deeds more often in exchange.
thanks universe.
yours trully, the good people of IMDB2

Oh, my, Catman, I am just now reading this, and hoping that Catwoman recovers well, and Catman and the kitties weather the storm, literally and figuratively. My mother has been in rehab, then respite care after a broken wrist, and through all this Midwest weather, she has been safe at a facility. She wanted to go home. but with the weather issues, she's decided to stay at the facility rather than try to deal with stuff on her own at home. I am much relieved. I hope the weather settles down, and Catwoman can be home soon with her kitties and Catman. Best wishes...
