They put The Shape of Water higher than Braveheart and A Beautiful Mind ''We’re only a couple of years removed from the shocks so we confess that we’re still not sure quite where Moonlight stacks up against other Best Picture winners.'' So why rank Moonlight 11th?? The Godfather and Casablanca are #2 and #1 respectfully. No complaints about that.

Fun to read, but meh! These kind of articles are all subjective. For me, Midnight Cowboy - 69' is one of the best, best picture winners of all time only comes in at 49 and Dances With Wolves - 91', ranks very low, because of the trite and over-played Goodfellas was robbed argument. Bulls<>t I say! Oliver - 68' never robbed 2001 for best picture, because 2001 wasn't nominated for picture. Like how The Deer Hunter - 78' ranks highly though and what it comments on Streep, one of her most natural and finer performances on screen. Nice that Amadeus - 84' and All About Eve - 50' are in the top 10. Have to admit, have never seen Casablanca - 43' in its entirety. It never looked that exceptional to me.

Interesting but not not worth commenting on as EVERYONE will have a different opinion.
Of the 4 I haven't seen, 2 are rated worst 2.

In terms of winners the only ones of any real worth are (IN NO ORDER)...
-The Godfather (1972) -The Godfather Part II (1974) -Rain Man (1988) -Forrest Gump (1994) -Braveheart (1995) (my #1 best picture winner hands down) -Gladiator (2000) -The Departed (2006)

I don't care to read the article, but are they ranking the movies on their own terms or not? Looks like NOT, especially when they are pulling that Oliver! bullshit. I haven't seen it, but it is beyond ridiculous to penalize the movie for winning over a movie that wasn't even nominated. I love Goodfellas, but that doesn't change how good of a movie Dances with Wolves is. That is an awful way to rank.

I skimmed through it and stopped at the films I knew of and\or liked to check the ranking and comments.
It would be based on the author's own terms largely and some of what would be popular opinion, which needs to be taken as a grain of salt too.
1968 had 3 films that I think of as worthy picture winners. Oliver, Rosemary's Baby and 2001. Oliver is one of the finest musicals to be adapted for the screen as far as I am concerned.

That it is ranked so highly because the world isn't as homophobic as it used to be? Oh yeah! And the world was happy to embrace it too. Do they mean the world of the AMPAS, or perhaps this is just a wanky, arrogant and over-reaching comment which attempts to speak for every mind in the world, as though they know what they are talking about.
I have seen far superior and better films on the subject of homosexuality. Or perhaps because this dull and insipid one was about "black" characters, which makes it all the more important. A double

I'd rate it in the bottom 20 or so of the Best Pictures.

They couldn't find a spot to place Moonlight in the top 10, due to far superior product, but as long as they place it at 11, Vulture won't have to deal with any blacklash regarding the race card. They have obviously pandered here and have shown a lack of integrity and honesty. This is unfortunately a sad truth of what this phony and victim mentality and mindset of the millennial has created. This is only further evidenced by the glib and smug narrative they associated with it.

Don't get me started. There is a very good reason I have stopped watching the Oscars or giving paid movie critics any credit.

I haven't even watched Moonlight but the same thought occurred to me - its high position on the list stinks of pandering. It can't possibly deserve 11th spot.

I will still watch the Oscars, just to see them make fools of themselves, as for paid movie critics, well everyone's a critic and those that are so-called professional, it is only their writing skills they I may take on board, not their personal opinion. I may, or may not disagree.
