In a huge blow to physical media loyalists one of the biggest electronic manufacturer exits the 4k UHD player market. Samsung was an earlier adopter and one the first to stop supporting 3D HDTV, so look for 4k discs to die a slow death also.

I think price was probably a problem as well as more focus on TV's.
There is also the expense of buying so many movies you already own on DVD/Blu-ray just to have the latest picture quality upgrade when people are still happy with the aforementioned formats.

The prices are ludicrous. The Blade Runner 4K is 55 Euro where I live. 55! Then again, I'm a luddite who still happens to be perfectly content with DVD and never even made the switch to Blu-Ray.

I am in no rush for 4k as basic HD is easily good enough.
but I will say if I am going to pay $ for stuff... it's either a physical disc or I am not paying because I can't see shelling out $ for digital stuff and I don't like streaming for movies etc.

I've always had a problem playing 4k (2160p) videos on my PC, and the specs aren't all that terrible.
I wouldn't mind seeing it go the way of Betamax. It doesn't seem that much clearer. I'm not even sure if the human eye can tell the difference with such a high resolution.

I've heard you won't really see a difference between Blu-ray and 4K unless you have at least a 55 inch TV. My family has a 50 inch 4K TV and I don't think the picture quality is a huge difference over Blu-ray. At least not enough for me to run out and get a 4K player. That's just me though.

Why anyone would get anything other than an XboxOne for this stuff is beyond me.

I've been watching them for years and years and have always found the picture and sound quality flawless. Plus they're very affordable. Growing up, all we had was VHS. Looking back, that format was certainly of poor quality, but even that didn't bother people at the time.

1080p is sharp enough for the human eye, 4K is overkill.
