This year of course sees the return of the brilliant Twin Peaks. A third season continuing the story 25 years later.
Has any series done this before? Returned after a long absence to continue the story. I know a couple of series (Arrested Development, Family Guy and Futurama) have done this after a relatively short absence, and only AD had any real sort of continuity.
TV series, not movies and not re-boots like Hawaii Five-O .

The only show I can think of is the X Files. Season 9 ended in 2002 and the revival aired in 2016. Technically however, the break isn't that long because the X Files' second film was shown in 2008.

Would Doctor Who count?
The main series was off from 1989 to 2005, excluding the 1996 movie which was only validated into the main series' continuity just recently.

Nope, I'm really excited for it. Have been for the past couple of years.

Boy Meets World & Full House had some big gaps, but not sure it was that big.
