Pillow Talk (1959) As Doris Day's housekeeper Alma, Thelma Ritter nurses a morning-after hangover with tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce and an ice bag under her hat... ...and lays the groundwork for another by drinking Rock Hudson, if not under the table, onto it. Played for laughs, and never explicitly referred to as such, Alma is pretty clearly an alcoholic. But in true rom-com fashion, it's suggested that her problems will be solved - just like those of her employer - by One Good Man: Allen Jenkins as elevator operator Harry. "You're too nice a looking woman to drink all the time. You need a man to take care of. Then you wouldn't have so much time to drink."

Emily Blunt's excellent performance as Rachel Watson in The Girl on the Train (2016) was very 'real', I felt.

Marilyn Monroe as well as most of the cast of THE MISFITS. In almost every scene, they're imbibing!
