Maybe because the Captain Marvel movie is based on more recent runs in the comics where the character of Carol Danvers was transformed into an unlikable Mary Sue and ushered in an era of Marvel where they end up cancelling more books than sticking to them for longer than a few issues and have become so short of profit they need the help of other publishers like IDW? And that Brie Larson has made some very eye brow raising and groan-inducing politically charged comments as of recent?
The issue isn't about having a female lead, its about the material and how they're going about it. I don't think DC Comics fans would be in favor of a Wonder Woman movie where its based on an unsuccessful interpretation of the character and if Gal Gadot acted like an SJW NPC telling people who to vote for, what to like, and who is right or wrong.

Don't give DC fans more credit than they deserve. I remember more than one DC fan channel on YouTube (and quite a few posters on message boards) complaining that Wonder Woman was getting good reviews when BvS and Suicide Squad had not, claiming that reviewers were being "SJWs". You'd think people would just be grateful that a movie that's part of a franchise that are fans of was doing well, but no. Link?

I don't really want to take part in any CM debate, but there actually is an interesting question here: Why didn't WW face any of the "SJW backlash" that has plagued other franchises? Dont forget how Former Sam and Archie Stampson trolled the movie.. Sammy even coined the phrase ARTIFICAL BOOOSTERS!

Maybe because the Captain Marvel movie is based on more recent runs in the comics where the character of Carol Danvers was transformed into an unlikable Mary Sue It's not that simple. Danvers was Ms Marvel since 1977 who was basically a female counterpart to Captain Marvel. There was a female captain Marvel in the beginning of the 80s and again in the beginning of the 2000s. Danvers took on the mantle/name of Captain Marvel 7 years ago, but is basically Ms Marvel but called Captain instead. It's really all based on recent runs...her origin in the Air Force and meeting the Kree goes back to the 60's and it seems a lot of her origin in the film is from the 70s run. I see nothing wrong with it personally. Bothered about as much as the MCU going with Scott Lang instead of Hank Pym ie not at all.

There are true MCU fans that are excited for Captain Marvel, and then there are just morons who like to downgrade MCU movies because they're butthurt. Yeah, remember the last time these guys did similar things to 'Black Panther' and 'Avengers: Infinity War'?

Because quite simply we have the two coolest women leading the pack right now: Wonder Woman/Gal Gadot and Harley Quinn/Margot Robbie. Whats not to like? Even TV's Supergirl is kinda cool! LOL

DC fans embraced Wonder Woman , but Marvel fans are afraid of women and downvoting audience scores Miss Captain Marvel. What an insecure bunch. Because they are immature when its comes to women.

But yeah there was a cry about Wonder Woman and especially Gal Gadot being cast as her. I think her being in BvS and not being the star of the movie that help. The same thing might have happened with Black Panther if he wasn't in Civil War. It just seems now in hindsight that everyone liked her being Wonder Woman and that they really wanted a Wonder Woman movie because it was positive afterwards. I mean, remember all the talk of the movie being a total mess?
What's even funnier about this is that DC pretty much flipped everything to being female led, but then Marvel announces 2 female led movies everyone flips their shit.

I don't really want to take part in any CM debate, but there actually is an interesting question here: Why didn't WW face any of the "SJW backlash" that has plagued other franchises? It did. There was a brief period where people were losing their shit over some theater offering women only viewings for Wonder Woman. Some guy even threatened to sue the theater, claiming it was a human rights issue and discrimination.
Thank God that's over though. Nobody wants or needs that. Some people tried and fortunately it fizzled out and died before it became to embarrassing. Win-win.
