What say you regarding your favorite Tom Cruise movies? He’s got a million credits by now. I’ll go top 5 and bottom 1:
1. Risky Business 2. Edge of Tomorrow 3. Top Gun 4. Jerry Maguire 5. Rain Man
Least Favorite: One of the most overrated predictable pieces of crap ever made, A Few Good Men, a terrible movie all around. A few minutes of Jack being Jack cannot save this horseshit.

1. Edge of Tomorrow 2. Minority Report 3. Days of Thunder 4. Eyes Wide Shut 5. Mission Impossible
I'm with you on A Few Good Men, but I'm always going to hate movies that absolutely skewer the legal process for the sake of being dramatic. Probably my least favorite of his movies overall is Knight and Day, which I somehow saw.
I absolutely love Edge of Tomorrow, it's a shame it wasn't as big a hit here as it should have been, it's one of the better sci-fi movies of recent years.

A Few Good Men is seriously my favorite Cruise movie. Love it. I also enjoyed Knight & Day as the spoof it was, so it looks like I'm on an island in this thread. Other than that...
The Color of Money The Last Samurai Vanilla Sky Edge of Tomorrow Collateral (Which I pretend is a sequel to The Color of Money)

I’m a sucker for almost any movie dealing with time travel. Even the bad ones I kind of like. I thought EOT was one of the better ones, a cross between a sci-fi Groundhog Day and a video game simulator. Loved Emily Blunt in it as well. There’s talk of a prequel but they can’t coordinate their schedules. Haven’t seen Knight and Day. Is that the Cameron Diaz one? Looked awful. I hate AFGM for many reasons. The main reason is that it’s so falsely dramatic and predictable. “We’ll somehow get Jack Nicholson to admit what he did on the stand. Sounds good?” All they needed to make it worse would be to have Demi Moore pretend to like him like Kim Basinger did to him at the end of the Michael Keaton Batman.

Cruise has one of the best filmographies ever. Almost no other actor can compete. My personal favorites? Edge of Tomorrow, The Last Samurai, Minority Report, Collateral, and Ghost Protocol.

Who could compete? Someone that’s been around a while most likely. Best I can think of are either Harrison Ford or Clint Eastwood. There are other better actors than Cruise but with smaller bodies of work. Daniel Day Lewis, Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, Russell Crowe for example.

I actually read the book for that and I thought it was enjoyable. The movie was ok. It was like a sci-fi Nicholas Sparks thing. Not great but not an abomination.

I can name 20 off the top of my head easily. There are also actors who have been in more movies, but I meant the best filmography. Only Leonardo Dicaprio compares IMO. Think about how many good films they have each been in. It is almost uncanny. Deniro and Pacino might be up there too. Comparing DDL to Cruise acting wise is a joke.

I can't really agree that he has the greatest filmography around. He gave up on playing characters and making interesting films a long time ago. All he seems to have any interest in now is continuing to look cool and and young in his advancing age. He essentially only makes stunt filled action movies with scientology approved messaging and plays characters that were probably intended for somebody 20 years younger than him.
And he's good at that, but I find it really boring at this point. I can watch a clip of him hanging off of an airplane or jumping from roof top to roof top online and think it's cool and everything, but I really have no interest in going to see yet another 'Tom Cruise-as-a-super-cool-action-guy with some sci-fi theme' movie again. They've generally been good, but I've seen him do it so many damn times at this point.
If he was to, all of a sudden, make a Magnolia again with an interesting director and take on a character with some insecurities or vulnerabilities or odd tendencies or something other than just what he ALWAYS does, then I would be interested.
The frustrating thing about that is that I think he has it in him to do actual character work, he just chooses not to. It's like he became really self conscious at some point about not being the towering movie star or something and just entirely gave up on doing anything that didn't give him that ego boost.
It's probably the thetans.

I don’t think Cruise is a BAD actor, just not on some the level of some of the others mentioned. But he’s one of the most entertaining actors even though 9 times out of 10 he plays just a slight variation of Tom Cruise. He’s like AC/DC - a great band but you know what you’re gonna get every time.

All the Right Moves Eyes Wide Shut
All the Right Moves had a naked Lea Thompson and Eyes Wide Shut had a naked Nicole Kidman. None of his other movies can beat that.
