Sad news overnight... A good friend of my daughter's with depression has been missing since walking out of his house at 2AM on 8th February, wearing just jeans and a t-shirt. He left his phone, wallet, keys, etc, behind... His friends, family, police, and SAR have spent a couple of weeks now searching, checking CCTV, giving out flyers, making public appeals, and all that.
A piece of CCTV footage turned up some hope, but sadly his body has now been recovered by police divers from a nearby lake. Police say no suspicious circumstances, appears he just walked in to a lake and let himself drown.
My daughter and everyone involved is devastated... Our kid also suffers with depression and anxiety, as so many people do, including myself.
So, just a Thursday thought for you... Be nice to people, look out for vulnerable people, take time to say hello to homeless people on the street, you could be the difference that stops the next person going over the edge.
Thanks for listening.

There are no easy answers for depression, trust me, I've tried.
Like the song says, everybody hurts, take comfort in your friends.
If you know someone who is suffering, be a friend, a real friend. Just listen, and if they don't want to talk, listen even harder. Bring up some good times, get them laughing, be outright silly if you have to.
Just make sure they know that you're someone safe, and most importantly, don't burden them with your bullshit troubles. They have enough of their own.

Such a tragic story. We had a similar thing happen in our family, so we know the feelings only too well.

Terrible news, condolences to both families. A little human decency does go a long way, it's something we've all (myself included) get away from here and there.
