Are they planning for this movie just to focus on the characters as kids? Leave the movie set in the past. And only tell half the story?

Well, there's no way they are fitting the whole book into two hours, so my guess is that is exactly what they are going to do. It could work, depending on how they edit the story. The sequel will have the adults dealing with the return of Pennywise.
I really don't think we are going to get a totally satisfactory book to screen adaption until they decide to make a series. Same for The Dark Tower.

The dark tower needs to be series with that much story. |

I am positive it will be two parts. Not sure on the budget of this, but with the excitement and buzz it's getting after the trailer release, I'm wouldn't be surprised if this could have one of the biggest R-rated horror openings ever. If it gets fantastic reviews, this will great holds.

However, I'm afraid that the adults only sequel will be more boring unless they still involve the kids.

I saw before it started filming (when it was seeming like it would be shelved again) that it was set to be two parts, but I have heard nothing about that since the movie went into production.
