So I realized the problem with Kennedy, spoiled rich kid that she is; she's basically Cordelia, but without the charisma..........

I've always liked Kennedy. One of the few--if not the only--potential that actually wanted to train and learn how to defend herself without having to always rely on Buffy.
I can see why people don't like her, but as with Riley, I have no real issue and like certain things about the character.

I liked Kennedy. She wasn't as good of a character as Tara and I can understand why Tara fans didn't like her and wanted Tara to be brought back in the final episode to be with Willow but I am glad they didn't or it would have made everything Willow went through with Kennedy mean nothing. I didn't find Kennedy as annoying as some other people and I actually found her to be kinda sexy. If I had to choose between the actresses I would choose the actress who played Kennedy.

I get that she was the "worldly" to Willow's naive (for all of the things she did, she was still naive) but she was still annoying.

Kennedy was at her absolute worst during "Killer in Me" - she blows off her training so she can hit on Willow and belittles Willow and her magic at every step, including but not limited to the time Willow went off the deep end and tried to end the world. But just over all, she's behaves like an obnoxious, spoiled rich brat; who had no respect for anyone. She felt entitled, specifically like she somehow deserved to be in charge; so was naturally all in favor of kicking Buffy out, then got in a huff when Faith took charge. Fun side note though - in the course of playing the part and having to kiss and be affectionate with a woman, the actress playing Kennedy came out as bisexual. It like, helped her realize she was as much into women as she was men.

I did prefer Amber Benson, but Iyari Limon was also very attractive. She didn't annoy me either because she at least made an effort to train and fight. That will always be a plus. I like that Willow's three main relationships are nothing alike. Oz is nothing like Tara and neither of them are anything like Kennedy. It keeps things interesting and varied. It allows Willow to play off three different characters and show different sides of herself.

I might take a beating for this, but I not only liked Kennedy, I preferred her to Tara. Tara was always dull and not interesting in the least.

In all seriousness, I think that this is a facet of Kennedy which we have both noticed and upon which we agree. Yeah, I never quite understood all the ire, particularly regarding Riley. EDIT: Fixed improperly truncated quote. AKA I've-forgotten-basic-cut-and-paste. Think there's a wikihow on it?

EDIT: Fixed improperly truncated quote. AKA I've-forgotten-basic-cut-and-paste. Think there's a wikihow on it? I get this for Riley - he's not strictly an unlikable character, but I also get the dislike, to a degree, because there's nothing particularly enchanting about him. I'd call him vanilla, if not for the fact that as plain and basic of flavor as vanilla is, vanilla is still a fairly pleasant and makes plenty of things taste good. Riley is... a glass of room temperature water. It's not bad, it's not great, but I guess if you're thirsty it'll get the job done. I wouldn't even say him being part of the Initiative made him interesting. Besides how poorly they developed that particular concept, Riley just doesn't really seem like the GI Joe type. I know there are all types in the service, but Xander looked more convincing as a commando than Riley ever did. And like with Xander later on in the series, they just never really knew what to do with Riley. Even his idea of cheating on Buffy was pretty lame. To make one of his few defined characteristics an insecurity about Buffy's strengths and how he fits into her life just sort of tipped the otherwise neutral scales of Riley's likability ever so slightly against him. I really can't get behind that; she never took seemed take any of it seriously. Maybe the threat to her own life, because when it came down to it, it always seemed to be about her, but other than that, she was a spoiled brat. In at least one of the instances where we actually saw the Potentials train, Kennedy wasn't so much participating in the training exercises, as leading the others in the training by telling (shouting at) them what to do; and getting a kick out of the power trip. She belittled Willow's power, in spite of knowing not only that such power actually exists, but that Willow actually killed someone and nearly ended the world. Then she freaked when she actually got a glimpse of what an unrestrained Willow was actually like; and even the glimpse she got was a drop in the bucket for Willow. She butted heads constantly with Buffy, before it was hip for the rest of the Scoobies to follow suite; giving Rona a run for her money as the most stubborn, antagonistic Potential. Kennedy was all to happy to fuel the flames when shit hit the fan in Empty Places; and then got huffy, because she still had no major say in what they were doing, just because Buffy had left.
She might have been easy on the eyes, but she was completely insufferable.

Replacement characters always have it rough for either being too much like who they replace or nothing like who they replace. I'll always be a fan of both Kennedy and Riley. They're not my favorites, but they're not at the bottom either.
