Apparently Spike Lee threw up his arms in anger when Green Book won and started to leave. Not very gracious Lee, sheesh, you won best director.
Agree with Green Book winning? I heard it was very good.

And why was he dressed like a bus driver from the 1950's? Exorcising the ghost of Driving Miss Daisy?

Lee didn't win director, he won for a writing collaboration for adapted screenplay. He is whiney and entitled and thinks that he is being snubbed because he is black. Well Lee, your films aren't as great—I hated Do The Right Thing—as you think they are and perhaps if you weren't such a jerk, you might win more favour with others. I agree, entitled is right. The only movie I've liked of his is 25th Hour. But yeah, egomaniac

Isn't he in his 50s or 60s now? And yet he displayed such recalcitrant behavior. And this is not the first time that he's done something like that. He did it at the Cannes film festival many years ago. He's too old to be acting like a petulant brat.

I agree, entitled is right. The only movie I've liked of his is 25th Hour. But yeah, egomaniac I do like Jungle Fever and 25th Hour isn't bad, but that is pretty much it for me. Washington gave a towering performance in Malcolm X, but it is a film one really has to be in the mood for to sit through. Once is enough for me.
He was one of the biggest protesters about 4yrs ago, when he felt black performances had been snubbed. And this is after 12 Yrs A Slave has been acknowledged. It has been an under-handed attempt to turn what is perceived as white Hollywood privilege around by playing the oppressed racial card and making it about recognition of black people. Doesn't this then give out a privilege to black industry people due to default of skin color too? What if they are not necessarily as deserving, or as worthy as someone else who is white? It has become about lets fear the blacklash, and this is just a form of passive aggression and reverse racism.
You can bet your boots, black actors and films about black people will be honored annually at these award shows, to ease the victim-hood and entitled mentality. Lee looks like a crackpot anyway, regardless of race.
Yes, of course, I forgot about Malcolm X. There are many people under-recognized in Hollywood, but his aggressive ego demeanor is off putting and I can only do more harm than good. imo Thanks for your post, Toasted Cheese.

He complains but if he really wanted independence, he would not even be working for Hollywood-he would be making films outside of its control. He has enough name value to make films on Amazon or wherever.
But Green Book is not like Driving Miss Daisy-since the roles are reversed. It is the white guy who is the servant. That is the political message change.

It seems like he's been upset and offended by something going on 30 straight years now.

Is this dude a coke head or something and why is he wearing love\hate knuckle dusters? Aren't they considered a dangerous weapon? He was wearing love/hate knuckles in tribute to Radio Raheem from Do the Right Thing, which itself is lifted from Robert Mitchum's character in The Night of the Hunter:
