That's also kind of her point: Why shouldn't there be a Wonder Woman or Captain Marvel movie? Or a Rey in Star Wars? Why should superhero movies be only for male movie goers? No men ever complained about female lead Alien, Aliens, or The Terminator. If a great female lead movie gets made, men love it and don't complain, that's how this works. If Brie knew anything about sci fi and superhero movies, she would know this. Of course they complain. They just veil it by calling them Mary Sues. The prejudice is there. They just disguise it with tin-pot academia.

Usually when people call female characters Mary Sues, they compare them to other characters they don't consider Mary Sues.
It's not like I want people to start calling Ripley or Sara Connor Mary Sues, but technically, only personal preference and maybe a touch of nostalgia is stopping them. I consider it more lucky than anything they haven't been.

No luck involved. They are well written, quality female characters in high quality timeless movies. Plain and simple.

I don't need a 30 year old white girl complaining about not enough women and diversity in superhero movies, they're not made for THEM! How about that, Brie? That's also kind of her point: Why shouldn't there be a Wonder Woman or Captain Marvel movie? Or a Rey in Star Wars? Why should superhero movies be only for male movie goers? Has anybody actually said that there should not be a Wonder Woman movie or a Captain Marvel movie or a Rey in Star Wars ? Well i guess some people have, but is this the opinion of most people ?

There once was a time when most actors had enough sense to keep their idiotic political views to themselves, that way half their audience wouldn't be alienated. Anyone who refuses to see a movie just because they're against the actor's personal views (even if they have nothing to do with the movie) is the idiotic one. What exactly was wrong with what she said? Just because there should be more diversity among critics, it doesn't mean white men's opinions don't matter. And there's no such thing as movies being for a specific gender/race. That's actually more insulting to minorities. It's like saying that their standards are low enough to like bad movies.

I am thinking how bad the casting would be if she was chosen for a HUNDRA remake.

Do you ever comment on politics? If so, maybe you should stick to whatever it is you do and leave the political comments for the politicians. This is a good point, i have also noticed that people only complain if the actor has a political view that is different from their own. If an actor as the same political view they don`t mind that the actor is political. Everybody can comment on politics even actors. Sure, everybody has a right to their opinion, but there’s a difference between a regular person saying something silly to their family or friends or a celebrity saying something in public which is instantly going to reach millions of people.
In this case it’s not so much WHAT Larson said, but HOW she said it. She could’ve easily phrased it politely: I disagree with this person’s view, A Wrinkle In Time is a great movie that does not deserve such unfair criticism, and so on…
But no, she had to be mean and insulting by generalising and calling out older white people. She could’ve heave kept her statement positive by saying: I love A Wrinkle In Time, it’s excellent, I wish you would appreciate it too. Instead what she’s basically saying is: If you are a white person of a certain age you have no right to criticize movies made by female black filmmakers. – Which to me comes over as incredibly arrogant.

People on the right do the same thing when they write off every success by women and minorities as "forced diversity", "virtue signaling", "boosters", etc. They shouldn't dish what they can't take.

A Wrinkle In Time was a terrible movie anyway, don't care who it was "aimed at" when the plot and dialogue and acting was so horrendous. Can't imagine any ethnicity giving any of that a pass.

Can't stand her. She is plain as day and has a typical short-sighted and distorted feminist approach to things. Her career will go kaput soon and her Oscar win was just a fluke in a year of weak contenders.

Funny thing...the only person I know personally that was excited for the Wrinkle in Time movie, was a 40 year old white guy. He read the book in elementary school and loved it and couldn’t wait for this movie to come out.

She has a right to say what she wants, but what she said was a bit ridiculous IMO...only the people the movie (or art) is aimed at are "allowed" to critique it.
It's almost as bad as people who say "well, you couldn't do any better" when someone criticizes something, implying only people capable of working in a particular medium are "allowed" to critique it.

What's it like to be a jealous beta cuck who takes petty swipes at Chads on the internet in a futile attempt to feel better about himself?
