While trolling was definitely a problem, I feel that was a scapegoat in their decision to remove the boards. I think there were too many people speaking out against Hollywood's movies that they decided to take action and remove the boards. That way they could get people to move to places like reddit for to talk about movies, a site that is filled with shills who control the discussion. If you think about it, YouTube has "individual boards" too, for each video. Many of them filled with trolls, racists, sexists and just ignorant and dumb people in general, which is just as bad, if not worse than the type of people that could be found on the IMDb boards. Yet there is no full time moderators on there right? And that's Google, one of the biggest companies in the world. I think something that big is too hard to moderate. Have you checked out MovieChat yet? It is the successor to the IMDb boards. It doesn't make any sense. Registered users are still talking smack about movies and shows in the IMDb User Reviews. Also, they can still leave a comment under an article in the News section on the front page if you have Facebook. There's people spamming how to make money quick with fake profiles. If their intention was to stop the trolling then those two features should've been removed in 2017 when the boards went.
As for my answer, I selected no, but I do want to hold out a bit of hope.

What's your proof of this? It's not rocket science, fool. We all saw the ads while we were on IMDb's message boards. Message board users spent more time on the site than someone who was merely looking up stats on a movie. More time on the site equals more exposure to advertising. Thus, advertisers will buy more advertising. So, you got nothing then?

Needham usually pointed out that their big name advertising wasn’t posted on the message boards when the subject was mentioned but perhaps Nimda is right, Amazon should be putting some of their profits into funding your site. I remember when he said that. It didn't make sense that it doesn't make sense now. The part of the site where people would go to every day multiple times a day had almost no impact on web traffic? Yeah, okay.

No. Unless they employed full time moderators and an Admin and put phone and credit card verification on people's accounts it would only go back to being the same cesspool many boards had become before it was closed down. I miss some of the members I used to talk to on the old IMDB boards that didn't make the move to here and having individual boards for TV shows but I wasn't upset when it closed down 'cause too many people were ruining it for others. One word: Neemaak (misspelled, I think). Exhibit A of administrators not doing what they were supposed to.

Have you checked out MovieChat yet? It is the successor to the IMDb boards. It’s not gonna happen, and I feel upset about it. That's okay, we have MovieChat remember? You do use it, right? If we get as many people on there as possible and get some decent activity going, we won't ever need IMDb back. Reddit movie section has a lot of individual movie discussion threads that I've used. Please don't tell me you're talking about /r/movies. It's filled with shills and idiots. Also reddit threads cannot be bumped and are only respondable for 6 months. After that they become locked. Also many posts get buried down below and stupid "meme" posts are shown at the top due to having the most upvotes. Pretty useless for movie discussion. MovieChat is the way to go, as it works the same way as the IMDB boards did. Well, I was wrong. I have discovered a potentially even better IMDb alternative: *** From what I've seen so far, it's almost identical to how IMDb was, but with some small changes/improvements, like their awesome browser extension that puts the boards back onto their corresponding IMDb movie/shows/actor etc pages. (MovieChat has one too but it sucks ass) I'm not sure why I was not made aware of this site sooner. Well maybe I was (as the name looks familiar), so maybe I did check it out in the past but perhaps it was still a work in progress and did not look as good (well good as in similar to how IMDb looked. I wouldn't say the IMDb boards looked good)/work as well as it does now. Unfortunately the activity on *** does not seem as good as MovieChat though. Hopefully that will change though as it gains popularity. I've noticed that our resident gameboy and Stammerhead also post there. Why they have not been informing people here of it here I have no idea. One problem though is that there seems to be a lot of trolls/losers on there. Looks like it might be a lot of the "Soapbox" type of crowd, at least going by the General Discussion boards. I can't say what all the individual boards are like yet though, so I don't know if they are as bad as the general ones. So for now at least, here is still a far better option for general boards.

I guess that explains why gameboy and Stammerhead haven't mentioned it.

Sure it does. IMDb user reviews have to be approved by IMDb before they actually appear on the site, right? Whereas posts on the boards were instantaneous. Yeah, with your real name. People are less likely to post negative things if it's not anonymous. While I'm sure it happens, the last time I checked, Facebook made it much harder to make throwaway accounts now. I believe years ago if you tried to make one, upon signup it would force you to name X number of real friends in order to actually make the account or something. Obviously something you won't do if you're going to make a throwaway troll account. So I assume it's the same (or even more restrictive) now.

their sites popularity has went downhill drastically since the removal of their message boards I could see them opting to bring them back in the next three-four years It was too labor intensive monitoring all those boards. They were losing money. They were owned by Amazon though. One of the richest companies in the world probably. Although I'm not sure how much Amazon cared about IMDb or if they would have been willing to spend much (or any) money on improving it. Despite being owned by Amazon, I always just assumed it was a very small operation run by Colonel Needham and a small team of idiots. The low budget appearance and general crapness of the site certainly gave off that impression.

I loved the old IMDb boards. Trolls never bothered me. Yeah, did people not use the ignore feature? An ignore feature is a must have tool for any discussion board. The only problem was of course that one loser who kept evading ignore. (neemok) I still don't understand how he was able to make so many accounts since you needed to provide a phone number. Dude must have had access to limitless sim cards or something.

They took over a number of boards for movies and TV shows with LGBT characters with their hate and I got abused by a number of them on posts and private messages and I left the site but ended up going back 'cause there were people I talked to there I would have missed. In the final days of the site the 'Supergirl' board had turned into a lesbian bashing board over Alex's relationship with Maggie with homophobic trolls using the relationship to launch attacks on us saying offensive things like we should be killed and I stopped posting on there.

Sorry about that. People who attack homosexuals must be projecting their own sexual confusion. Otherwise why would they care what other consenting adults do? Just based on your post here, they were the ones who suffered when you left. I have seen nothing but pleasant posts from you on a whole range of topics. I certainly have seen no hate, no vulgarity and/or no political agenda stuff from you. Their loss.

I generally try to be nice to everybody I talk to online and treat everybody with the same respect I would want to be treated with and there are only three distinct types of people I have had problems with on the internet and they have been homophobes, MGTOWs and sexist male comic book fans who think comic books and comic book movies should only be for them and bully, talk down to us and shun us for liking them too and female comic book writers.

No, they won't bring them back. I wish ordinary users like us who still contribute to that site by updating page information stop doing that, if they haven't done so already. They were/are just using us.

Ha ha ha . . . I had never heard of the term MGTOW before. Before I got to this quote, I was kinda feeling the same way, "Matt Forney from Return of Kings, a pick-up artist website, calls MGTOW a "creeping cult of male loserdom".[11]en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men_Going_Their_Own_WayI love women. I hate to say it but I kinda feel without women, there really would be no reason to live. Thanks for being a woman DebLovesBeccy. And for making the world a better place.

They are pretty bad and are emotionally disturbed and for a group that supposedly claims it wants to go their "own way" a lot of them spend all day complaining about us and bullying us on websites and forums or provoking us to get into fights with them with sexist things they copy from their websites. There were a lot of them on sites like Yahoo Answers before and all they did was target us for just writing on there and copy and pasted the same crap as each other until the point where it was very repetitive. If they want to know why they are alone it is 'cause they are an annoying bunch of sexist pigs that blame us for all their problems in life and think we are all the same instead of individuals. Thank you for being another man who isn't like them 'cause there seems to be a lot of them on some sites and all they do is give your gender a bad name and I have a number of male friends who are nothing like them.

doubt it. Other than placing an ad on a board like here, it wasn't bringing them any money
