Give him his ring right now. (Yes that comment was blown out of proportion, but no, he's never going to live that down.)

I’m gonna be that guy. Harper is a good player and can be very good, but he’s not this transcendental player that will allow you to plan 5 parades in 7 years. Of course the Phillies are improved with him, but for the love of God he isn’t Mike Trout. 13 years - what is this the NHL? Middleton said they’ll spend stupid money and that’s just what they did.

Thing is, with the rate of inflation on MLB salaries, the back end of his contract won't seem like the albatross it does now. At worst he'll probably be movable when he starts to decline. And let's be honest, professional athletes will probably all be cyborgs in ten years, anyway. Any word on whether he follows the TB12 method?

I’m gonna be that guy part two. So my boss lives in New Jersey and knows people from the town that Trout is from. Word is his wife, who is also from Trout’s home town, wants to move back there and have kids. See you soon Troutsy!!

I hear you, I just think Harper is better than some of the naysayers give him credit for. Yeah, he has room to improve (recognizing of the situation from game-to-game is of paramount importance from what I've seen from him), he isn't Trout, but he is just now entering his prime and now he's going to rake in that ballpark. Plus, he's right in the middle of what looks like a terrific lineup at this point. I definitely hear the concerns, it's a lot of money, it's a LOT of years, but if the Phillies can add Kimbrel at this point, they're my NL pennant winner.

Harper's WAR last year puts him nowhere near this type of payout - - Jean Segura had a better WAR than Harper of the guys the Phillies signed. Yasmin Grandal had a better WAR last year. Now Trout - - he's the once-in-generation talent. His WAR over the last five or six years is greater than Harper and Machado's combined.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, the whole process just kinda left a sour taste, which I don’t even think is Harper’s fault. The local and national media coverage of this was crap. So he’s going to have to win me over. But yes I think Citizen’s Bank Park is made for him. If he plays up to his potential, he’ll put up some numbers. Word is that now they’re gonna focus on Kimbrel and Keuchel. Kimbrel I like. Keuchel I’m not sold on. His velocity is declining and I don’t think he’s much of a big game pitcher anyway. He’s basically a 3rd starter now I think. He’s in the “I’ll take him but won’t jump up and down” category.

Just saw a stat that says at the end of Harper’s contract, Bobby Bonilla will still be getting paid for 4 more years.

As long as nothing happens here in the next two years, they would be (at least for the pay per year - - not sure how old Trout would be at the end of such a contract).

If you hadn't been that guy, I would have. He is disinterested a times, he had three of his first six years (excluding his rookie, I don't know when he came up) where he's played less that 119 games, he has said he doesn't want Philly and Gabe Kapler before today, will this become a clubhouse cancer and he's never won a playoff series. Yes, neither has Trout, but Trout doesn't have Mighty Max Scherzer, Rendon, and the rest playing on his team. Philadelphia has less talent now than Washington did last year. This signing is just so the internet and talk radio loves Phillies management for a few days. I know RBI can be a misleading number, but he has only drove in 100 once, (99 another). Not impressing me the the Nats lineup. And the day I see a contract like this be called "money well spent" is the day you will see me on the cover of People Magazine with Taylor Swift.
Oh, to have DeNiro_Scorsese back. His Brycie Poo has left him.

The one glaring hole I see with Harper, and I alluded to it earlier, is his situational awareness. He'll come up late in a game and just swing at the first pitch before lollygagging to first base as if he just wants to sit down. I've seen him get ejected for arguing balls and strikes in extra innings while facing a division foe in the heat of a pennant race. Can't do that. That said, I've watched him play in person I can't tell you how many times. He can flat out hit and in that park, I think he'll be just fine. Will he ever "live up" to the contract? Tough to say, I know we're on opposite sides of the contract/length/AAV debate but I'd be stoked if I were a Phillies fan here. For the record, you DESERVE to be on the cover of People Magazine with Taylor Swift.

Oh yeah, the worst defensive team in baseball spent a kajillion dollars on subpar OF who will be destined for the DH in a few years (by then the NL might have it). Yeah the numbers were skewed by having Carlos Santana at first and Rhys Hoskins (worst defensive outfield ever?) in left. Hoskins is back at first, but you don't want a bad defense behind a young pitching staff.
