But hey, at least they can brag about Solo.
The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi have received criticism for plenty of things beyond the race and gender of 2 main characters. If you pay attention to all of the forum/social media criticism instead of singling out the venomous trolling of a small misogynistic/racist minority; and projecting that label onto all the critiquers; then you would know that. But that's part of the reason why Solo tanked. And why TLJ put up mediocre box office numbers after a first week that made it look like it was going to post Avengers: Infinity Wars numbers.
I can't speak for Captain Marvel. It could be getting ganged up on by misogynist/racist trolls; or it could have story/character/in-universe flaws that put it at the low end of Marvel fare. I haven't even watched a full trailer of it yet. I just haven't been as avid about seeing blockbusters when they first hit the theaters. Especially after 2 episodic Star Wars with very flaky mythos and questionable characterizations.
I will say this about Captain Marvel: if it's mostly bigoted trolls, the criticism will deflate and it will do decent at the box office. If the majority of complaints center around credible issues, labeling that group as also being bigots is only going to backfire eventually. Case in point; Solo.
