I don't think flamethrowers should necessarily count. It's a little too easy and they're not the same as blowtorches. A blowtorch is mostly a tool while a flamethrower is pretty much a weapon.

My memory is foggy on this, but wasn't there a scene in a Tarantino film where Ving Rhames said he was going to get a blowtorch and a pair of pliers to torture someone? Help anyone?

There are different types of torches such as butane torch and propane torch, but they basically have a similar design and have the same type of function which is to heat things. I think blowtorch is more of a common name for both. One is more for jobs like welding, melting, etc. where you need extreme heat and others have a less intense heat and are more for soldering materials, drying materials, heating stuff without melting it, etc.
