I went to NAPA looking for a Bluetooth speaker and didn't see anything. They had this radio that I could stick an aux cable into for $22 so I got that. I had problems trying to stay awake the other morning. I learned it's better to listen to talk radio than music if you're trying to stay awake and the stations here normally are playing tunes.

I own a collection of radios dating from the 1930's and all are in workable condition. Many of the older ones are vacuum tube radios. One of them is a Sausui 771 (1970's) receiver which I have connected to 2 small Radio Shack speakers. The sound is incredible. I also have a Bose Acoustic Wave which also has spectacular sound. Most of my antiques are also short wave capable. I also own a "world band" Realistic modern radio, and several scanners. One of my prizes is a 1950's Grundig Majestic.

I only listen to the radio when I'm driving. Sadly there are so few stations in this area and they are mostly oldies but goodies, Country & Western, or religious stations - not much choice. Sometimes I'm in the mood for classical music but there is no station that plays that, likewise for jazz. No news stations. Koskiewicz, my older sister had a beautiful Grundig Majestic, it had a HiFi turntable and AM & FM radio, it was a big piece of furniture purchased at that Chicago icon - Polk Brothers.

wicked K...I listen only to AM talk radio for entertainment. And indeed, the Grundig Majestic is a massive piece of furniture. I also own 2 small Grundig portable battery driven world band radios. In particular, I have tuned in to South American stations that play some very unusual music. But talk radio is my forte. One of my all time favorite talk hosts is Jonathon Brandmeier.

There is very little on AM radio in the Mobile, Al area, I think there are only 3 -4 stations and they are mostly Evangelical (not for me), FM has more choices but mostly music. I remember Jonathon Brandmeier. In the 1960's and 70's, WJOB in Hammond, IN used to have a talk show host named John Anastopoulos who really got people worked up, my mother used to listen to WJOB all the time. If I listened to radio more, I would try Sirius but its not worth it to me to pay for radio.

wicked K: Based on your locale, you should invest in an inexpensive "world band" radio. You would be surprised at the connectivity it would provide. IMO, Sirius is a ripoff. The airwaves are free if you tune in with the proper equipment.

wicked K: My Grundig mini 300 world band receiver has 10 settings, works on 2 double AA batteries, and includes an FM/Short wave antenna. All for $20 when I bought it new at a local Radio Shack. And it is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. A great little package for the money.

The local Radio Shack went out of business, I'll have to check to see if there still is a Radio Shack in Mobile otherwise I guess I'll have to rely on Amazon. Amazon has the world by its balls but when you really want something, they do come through.

wicked K: Yea, the Radio Shack in my neck of the woods is also gone, as are the various other small shops that catered to us radiophiles. However, I will never use Amazon as a source for anything.

Sometimes Amazon is my only option to get what I want, I've used Amazon more than ever since we moved to Alabama. Luckily I do have Chewy, Cat Claws and Hermit Crab Patch to get my pet supplies but I still need Amazon as a reliable source for fresh, live mealworms. If I still lived in the Chicago area, I would be able to do most of my shopping in person but shopping here is a big disappointment. I used to just buy books from Amazon.

Indeed, it is a retail jungle out there. I much prefer to see and handle the merchandise I am about to spend money on. If I can't find it in retail hands on shopping, then I don't buy anything.
