Wilmington Quicksteps?

They might have to make a 5 year 70 mil offer. The Quicksteps were kind of a cool story. They were a good "minor league" team. Minors in those days weren't the minors of today. 100% independent operations and not the best teams were in the "majors" then. The Quicksteps ruled the Eastern League (roughly the International League today) and routinely beat National League teams in exhibitions. They joined the fledgling ramshackle Union Association (for some reason called a "major league") as a midseason replacement. Their best players decided to bolt to the NL and major league American Association, the team posted a pitiful 2-14 record, with a whopping .175 BA and folded. They had two memorable aspects. A pitcher with one of the grwat nicknames, Ed "The Only" Nolan and set a record that will never be broken. Attendance for one game, zero. Tied, the Orioles played to an empty house, but it can't be broken.
The Wilmington quicksteps are why I love baseball. An infinite collection of too cool stories.

Just for you, I voted for the Orioles. He'll be a big help in the rebuilding. Major. He would probably catch us to a pennant within 2 years.
