Found this on Film General ...maybe we can help Hi, Now and then a movie comes to mind from the '70s I think. I'm pretty sure it was somewhere in Europe in a city. A woman was out with her son...maybe son and daughter...and the son or both of them started chasing a balloon I think and ran away from her. She started chasing after him/them and was running up and down long flights of stairs and into subways etc but couldn't catch up with him/them. They got away from her and she lost her child/children having to go back home without them of course very upset. She had already been under psychiatric care of some kind and this just made it worse, and the way I remember it her husband blamed her for losing the kid(s). I know it wasn't that movie called "The Red Balloon", but I can't remember any part of what the name of it actually is. From what I wrote does it sound familiar to anyone? It's been bugging me for a while I can't remember the name of it or what ended up happening. Thank you for any help! David nopeda

This was a kid's toy balloon, and not a balloon big enough to ride in?
The reason I'm asking is because your inquiry reminds me of a movie that my father took me to see in the 1970's, and I'd like to track it down. I think it was called "The Wishing Machine" or something like that, and all I remember was a full-sized balloon at the end, and I think it drifted away before the kids could get to it.

No it was just a small kid's balloon and it might have been theirs to start with and got away, I don't remember for sure.

Glad that you found it ! nopeda am curious as to HOW ? I checked keywords in all directions and combinations and found zip ! I posted in another group as well. The suggestion was made here: forums.tcm.com/topic/258778-please-help-with-name-of-movie-from-70s/It's kind of a wonder he figured out what I was asking about since it turns out there was no balloon. They were chasing a hula hoop.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0067382/?ref_=ttkw_kw_ttMiracles do occasionally happen it seems : " Jill is surprised and angry when her computer-genius boyfriend decides to quit his job in a big company for unclear reasons. But when her children disappear mysteriously and seem to have been kidnapped, she wants to know more, and discovers that she may be caught in a DEADLY TRAP.."
