Ricky from "Trailer Park Boys."
He's not outright disappointed with himself, and is a ridiculously violent and self-assured character. Seeing him break his hard exterior when he's concerned about his daughter brought a genuine tear to my eye. "I just didn't want her to be a fvck-up like her dad." For such a good comedy, that's a heavy one. He often hides his stupidity from his daughter, raises the pitch of his voice to talk to her in a more gentle cadence (generalize at your leisure, but as a large man with a deep and loud voice, this actually makes a huge difference sometimes), and he regularly apologizes to his friends/family for not being smarter or for-to-be more intelligenticulated. Often when faced with adversity, he likes to get hammered, pass out, and ignore it. Denial. I believe that's probably the most definitive characteristic of a self-loathing character. Certainly the most tragic. A specific kind of Hell is realizing you're smart enough to realize you're an idiot.
This is clearly a guy who loves his friends/family, despite not being able to live a reasonably normal life. He's one of the smartest written characters since Al Bundy IMHO. Acted perfectly by Robb Wells.
Runner-up would be Bill Murray's character from "Lost in Translation."
