Look James, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, smoke a J, and think things over.

I agree. because even if there might be certain technical aspects some might try to argue as 'objective quality' in movies etc (which I might agree with to some degree as some movies you can just tell stand out more visually than others do etc(but I guess even in these cases, it's still pretty much ones opinion even though I would try to argue this is more objective than just naming objectively great movies in general)), in the end a movie either works or does not in a very basic sense and in this regard it's all subjective. hence, basically down to personal opinion.
but speaking of that... while I may or may not agree with someones opinion on a movie I would tend to give that persons opinion more weight/credibility if they have seen plenty of movies in general vs say maybe a couple hundreds movies etc. because I feel ones opinion is more accurate ones you have seen plenty of movies as you won't be as easily pleased and you can start to see the true gems vs just another movie sort of thing at this point to.
but anyways, I would imagine most people would agree that movies are subjective unless they are that type who 'tries' to distinguish between 'best' and 'favorite' which I think is pointless as ones personal enjoyment of a movie is paramount, nothing else really matters to that person. but it's like they still try to guess what's "objective" anyways as I think this is pretty much summed up with those critic types who try making those Top 100 movies of all-time types of lists which are just mostly re-hashes of each other which I don't give much weight as they seems to mostly go for movies that might be ahead of their time etc more than just being solid movies straight up. so while it's fine to recognize people who might broke new ground and advanced movies on some level etc, for like historical reasons etc, in the end a movie still has to be interesting/entertaining for the viewer otherwise it does not really matter which, like I have said before, a persons overall enjoyment of a movie pretty much boils down to some sort of emotional response/feeling it gives the viewer as that's basically how I rate movies in that I pretty much convert that feeling into a score on the 1 through 10 scale. the vast majority of movies are nothing special and my ratings tend to reflect this as I use 5/10 as average (Thumbs Down) and then scales up and down fairly evenly from there. 5/10 is my most common rating (with 6/10 and then a 4/10 being the next most common for me which between those three ratings make up over 8 out of every 10 movies I see) in that those movies are usually okay enough not to have wasted my time but are ultimately forgettable etc.
