I didn't even know this was a thing until recently. It seems pointlessly tedious. I hate flying (not the flight itself, but the hassle of it all), and assigned theatre seats remind me of booking plane tickets. Just another reason I'd prefer to watch at home.
For me it removes some of the casual fun of just popping in for a movie on a rainy night. If I'm not mistaken, theatres are suffering a bit these days (I don't know many people without a decent TV and a comfy couch)...seems strange they'd add hassle to the already over-inflated price of a night at the movies.
I like to sit dead center where the speakers converge, and I could understand a sort of 'first class' section of seats. Gold cushions rather than maroon perhaps. On the larger scale though, what is the point of this?
Anyone else get Costanza-style flustered with this?

I don't like them either. I often ignore the seat assignment and sit where I want if I see a better place (unless the auditorium is pretty filled up). It feels like a bit of rebellion to be given one seat but to sit in another. Petty, maybe, but it makes me feel good.

I love it. I buy my tickets ahead of time online and I always know where I'm sitting. We can show up right before showtime and still get the seats we want. There's no downside.

If you can able to pick the seat where you want, it shouldn’t be so bad.
But no, I prefer to choose any seat I want when I actually get there. Most preferably, in the back.

I don't like it. I like to go to the first showing of the day, so crowds are not normally an issue. I do not reserve a seat before going to the theater but still need to select a seat on the little screen at the box office. Very hard to gauge the distance to the screen on that so I've ended up too close or too far.

I was excited about reserved seating because I was the guy who always showed up an hour before showtime. Now I reserve my seats, sometimes months in advance...and I still show up an hour before showtime.

This thread has made me realize why I waited a month to see Black Panther last year, and so far this year, why I haven't seen Glass.

As someone who prefers a particular seat, I like it. As long as I buy my ticket early enough, I don't have to worry about turning up early to the actual screening to get the seat(s) I want.

It would be helpful if theater websites let me preview a virtual view of the screen from each seat before I reserved a specific one.

I'm fine with them. Especially if I have to order them online. I'd give almost anything to not sit in the very, very front rows. I'd rather not see the movie if that's the case.
It does mess with my first come first serve mentality, especially since sometimes I won't know where I want to sit until I'm there, but it's great if you're a group of 3 or more. I don't look forward to the day where I have to explain to somebody they're in my seat. Part of me might die a little when I show the ticket that confirms it's mine, mostly because (in my opinion) it really is a risk worth taking to find a better seat. It's hard to show admiration when you're kicking them out.
I can take it or leave it, to be honest. No movie was ever worse because I wasn't red carpeted to my selected seat.

I'm fine with it. Especially on big opening weekend movies. I don't want to be sitting there 45 minutes before the movie starts. I don't need some punk trying to save 10 seats for their friends either.

I didn't like it at first. I thought, you go the theatre and get what you get.
But then I thought... no matter what, if I already bought that seat its guaranteed no matter what. Even if by chance I'm a few minutes late because the fricking concessions lines is out of control. Plus, reclining seats aint be either. If you're smart and do it a few days in advance you can even choose from good seats.
So now, I'm all for it.

I am of two minds about it. Here in Montreal reserved seating is limited to IMAX and AVX theatres, and for those, I love it. I buy the tickets in advance and no matter how full the theatre is, I know I will have a good seat. For “regular” movies, I don’t like it (not that we have reserved seating for those here, but I’ve seen it in other places). I much prefer to choose a seat as I go in and be able to move if I want to .

I don't like it. I just want to buy a ticket and sit wherever I want to sit if the seat is open. No hassle, no fuss.

You never have to worry about where you're sitting if you reserve your seats ahead of time. I can't believe people are against this concept. Who wants to wander in and hope nobody is sitting in the seat they wanted? Who wants to get stuck in traffic or at the concession counter and stress over somebody going into the theater ahead of them? Who wants to stand in line for an hour + to make sure you aren't in the first row at a big premiere? What am I doing? You guys are right. Just show up at showtime and buy your tickets. Leave the good seats to people who plan ahead such as myself.

Doesn't matter to me. I'm disabled so I sit in the disabled seats. Plenty of leg room.
