It's kind of like a zombie that keeps lumbering along. Of course, they call it LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions) now. I have a fascination with the subject because a roommate of mine was actively involved with the cold fusion "community" when the controversy first erupted, and I remember taking phone calls from scientists I had seen or heard interviewed on TV/Radio. Supposedly they had a coffee machine running on it in some back corner of the University of Minnesota under the care of some retired chemist. This roommate had me so convinced that there would be commercial use of LENR technology within a decade or less that I made bold bets with friends involving cash. . .and lost money on each one. This is one of the reasons why I think it is so important to wait until there is a consensus in the scientific community before committing strongly to a new, controversial idea. Yes, scientists by nature are very skeptical and conservative, and yes, sometimes this creates a witch-hunt environment where rebels are unfairly shunned, only later to be redeemed, but usually rejection of wild ideas turns out to be the right course of action. Maybe LENR will triumph in the end. . .we'll see. I'm watching with an open mind. www.3quarksdaily.com/3quarksdaily/2019/03/icebergs-in-the-room-cold-fusion-at-thirty.html#more-156551

I last heard of it when I watched Val Kilmer hook up with Elisabeth Shue in The Saint.
