well, that is really the end. 207 liquor outlets closed means there might be only around a 100 left for the whole population. jeez! the club that my father goes to has also shut down its bar. 586 beer and wine parlors shut down - i'm sure the one i frequent is gone. it was on a main road. 1132 toddy shops - jeez! this is huge. imagine the level of unemployment. india is a different country now.
207 liquor stores - lets say there are 10 employees per store including loading and unloading - thats 2100 unemployed.
586 beer and wine parlors - lets say 10 employees per parlor - 5860 unemployed
1132 toddy shops - these shops serve food as well - lets say 5 per shop - thats around 5700 unemployed
18 clubs - lets say 5 per club - another 100.
nearly 15,000 people unemployed in a single day in kerala. its fucking ridiculous! and imagine the impact on ancillary services and government revenue.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In all, 1,956 liquor shops were closed in the State on the basis of the Supreme Court order banning liquor outlets and bars along national and state highways. Excise Commissioner Rishi Raj Singh said a special enforcement drive was launched from April 1 to check the production and sale of spurious liquor.
The closed shops include 207 outlets of Bevco and Consumerfed, 11 five star hotels, 18 clubs, 586 beer and wine parlours, two beer outlets and 1,132 toddy shops. The Excise Department has asked the police to support the drive against spurious liquor.
