Leonard Maltin said it "Looks like a Roger Corman version of Roger Rabbit". I agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment.

The movie had potential. It had genuinely interesting and cool(pun intended) idea. Unfortunately, that idea was botched thanks to studio meddling.
It was originally conceived as a hard R fantasy, horror type film.

If only they had stuck to the original script and allowed Ralph Bakshi to do his thing, maybe the film would've been seen as more of a decent cult classic now. And come to think of it, if there was one film that deserves a remake and more exploring, it's THIS FILM.

While it's obviously a ROGER RABBIT rip-off, it still starts off interesting enough. However, at some point, it becomes a "save the world" type of fantasy movie out of nowhere, making everything fall apart.
4/10

5/10 Mainly for David Bowie's theme song.

5/10 Mainly for David Bowie's theme song. David Bowie's song, "Real Cool World", as well as the rest of the film's soundtrack was one of the very few things this film had going for it.
