Does a bear shit in the woods? This joke says so, so it MUST be true! Your kind of 'evidence!' "A bear and a rabbit were walking together down a path in the woods. The bear suddenly stopped and said ...'Excuse me, old man...call of nature, you know!' and left the track. He came back a few minutes later and they both continued their walk. 'Tell me' the bear said 'are you rabbits bothered by shit sticking to your fur'? 'Not at all' the replied. 'It doesn't affect us - dry pellets, your know!' 'Good'. said the bear, 'that's all right then', and picked up the rabbit and wiped his bum with him.

Your friend is welcome to join us by the way. We're not big on all that Old Testament stuff her fundos try and adhere to... We are more in to Jesus, Mary, and the Saints. But hey, if she is in to rituals, us Catholics have it nailed. 👍 Nah, she lives in the Ozarks where the Evangelicals think they can build themselves a stronghold, against the Tribulation or something... Now I, on the other hand, do like the rituals, especially Mass in Latin. I studied Renaissance art history, and do appreciate stained glass and great architecture. If I ever get to come across the pond, I will make St. Bernard's a stop on the journey. Do they have a pipe organ? I learned to play one Bach fugue on a pipe organ, while I was a Lutheran years ago, in college. Our parish has a modern church building Rachel, not really of architectural value, but if you are over here, you are more than welcome to attend Mass with me at St Bernards, and meet all my animals.

Nothing scripturally says anything one way or the other. Who knows. Theological thought extends beyond 'scripture' Do you adhere to all old testament scripture? Scripture is a bit of a bullshit term used by evangelicals... They selectively choose which bits of it they agree with that shore up their own prejudices, and ignore the others.

It doesn't sound like you need to be on a religion board when you act as if scripture should just be thrown out and treated as a BS term.
It doesn't sound like you really know much about it. You've got your propaganda agenda you've sort of heard of it or you have picked a few verses out of context to discredit it.
Go find yourself a nice atheist blog and have a jolly ol' time.

Sorry, but I am, and a very active one. Yourself? Catholicism is just a denomination of the Christian faith. Jesus is the messiah, the son of God who provides salvation to the world vy his death on the cross and his ressurection. Seems odd to be a true believer...trully born again while crapping on scripture. Jesus says every jot and tittle of the word will be fulfilled.

That's the 3rd time you have questioned and tested my faith. Very fitting during Lent. Jesus invites you not to judge others, and here you are judging who qualifies as a 'true believer' in your eyes, which I think has a massive plank in it.

The very fact that he is a Celtic FC supporter and an Irish nationalist makes him closely attached with Catholicism. I personally take words of people than believe in judgments of the more righteous Christians.

I think you are talking about things more along the lines of joining a club vs. actually being an actual Christian. Actually believing on Jesus Christ with all his heart and being a born again believer.
I'm just suspecting, based on his comments, he's not a born again believer. I don't think we are really talking about the same thing. Jesus never called people to be Methodists, Baptists, Lutherans, Catholics, Presbyterians.....etc. Those are just BS denominations humans came up with to muddle the waters and form petty tribes.
Casting shade on the word of God kind of seems odd if someone has a personal relationship with Jesus and believes on the scripture about him. You usually don't go around acting as if the scriptures are half BS drivel.

You have a certain interpretation of Christianity in your mind and you believe those who follow along your lines are the true Christians. Rest are just name only Christians. Well there's nothing new in that. Many religious people do hold that kind of self-righteous attitude. I wonder if there is relevance to the teaching regarding not to judge other Christians.

Considering that the term Born again came after the Protestant reformation, I wonder if hanswilm considers anyone a Christian in the first 1500 years of Christian history.

Born again is an evangelical Protestant thing, not Catholic. You should read our Profession of faith which we recite at Mass... We proclaim our faith in God, Jesus, Mary, the Saints, and the One Holy Catholic Church.

You guys keep acting as if these are "different" faiths.
All Christian faiths boil down to ONE thing.
There is one God who created all things. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The God of Israel. He is one God in three persons....father, son and Holy ghost.
Jesus is God, who came to the earth, lived a perfect life, was crucified to pay the punishment of sin all humans commit and have to be judged for. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus (or God the father if you've never heard of Jesus or came before his time....."I and the Father are one"..."he that hath seen me hath seen the Father").
That is the Christian faith. All these denominations....Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, Catholic.......etc. they are the Christian faith.....just little man made sects of it.
They are all the same faith.
Quit acting like "catholic" is some separate religion/faith. Faith in God/Jesus/bible is the Christian faith. Catholicism is the Christian faith. It's got a ton of "traditions" they've added over the years but it is the Christian faith. The bible and scripture is the core of all these faiths.
He's basically saying the bible is mostly crap but I'm a "Catholic", "Baptist", "Presbyterian"........fill in whatever denomination you want, they are all the Christian faith.

Look, you are obviously an evangelical... You're like the Pharisees and Scribes, chapter and verse, know every word of the old testament, etc etc. We are more in to living Jesus in our heart, and practicing his teachings in our daily lifes... That was today's gospel and homily at Mass this morning, 'Don't be like the Pharisees and Scribes'. Why don't you worship your way, and leave others to practice their faith their way?

What's "your way"?
Scribes bitched about all the little traditions.....washing hands....don't do anything on the Sabbath that even remotely looked strenuous.
We are talking about the validity of the bible and faith in Jesus Christ.
I don't even know what you are talking about. What are you talking about? What is your way? Is Jesus God or not? You have faith in what?
I looked up the tenets of the Roman Catholic Faith:
• The Bible is the inspired, error-free, and revealed word of God.
• Baptism, the rite of becoming a Christian, is necessary for salvation — whether the Baptism occurs by water, blood, or desire.
• God’s Ten Commandments provide a moral compass — an ethical standard to live by.
• The existence of the Holy Trinity — one God in three persons. Catholics embrace the belief that God, the one Supreme Being, is made up of three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Well right out of the shoot you have already been shucking that first one. It is a "BS thing evangelicals use"
Baptism. Well Christians are instructed to get baptized. Salvation doesn't hinge on whether you get baptized or not but it is something Jesus said to do so to be obedient and pleasing to God one would do that.
There is nothing unique about "Roman Catholic" faith. Tenet one is pretty much EVERY CHRISTIAN faith. Since the bible is mostly BS to you, what is "your faith" that you keep spouting as if you follow some separate religion "DIFFERENT" from all Christian faiths?
What are you even talking about?
