If you throw racist comments then you are not going to be respected just because you are a woman.... Assuming Russell Westbrook's side of the story is true and which very likely is true in my opinion : The man and his wife said "“Get down on your knees like you use to.” If someone directs racist crap to you then you are not expected to listen and forget. Westbrook replied: “I’ll f*ck you up. You and your wife,”. Not something that you want to hear but that is not something unexpected in reply to a racist comment.
Utah seems to be not a place I do like to visit.

Good for Russ. Out of context what he said seems bad but fuck the people who are using this to shit on him. Racist bullshit shouldn't be tolerated 100%.
Just because you bought a ticket doesnt mean you have the right to be human garbage.

Just because you bought a ticket doesnt mean you have the right to be human garbage. Can not agree more. A ticket doesn't give you the right to be disrespectful to others or make them feel inferior.
And I am amazed by the mentality of these racist people. They pay to watch their side which is itself full of black dudes and yet they direct racist comments on players of opposition. And this isn't the first time it has happened in Utah. Their fans are very inconsiderate.
Okay, one good thing I like right now is that many Jazz fans on Reddit are speaking out against the fan who insulted Russ. So that's a good attitude by other fans of Jazz.

I just unfollowed somebody I liked alot simply because they are using this as a reason to hate on Russ. "Fuck this guy" only to then say fuck the fans too. However then doubled down on Russ being a douche bag because of this.
It's easy to act all high and mighty when it's not you in the situation and it's highly likely they're not victims of racist bullshit day in and day out.
If this was somebody like Giannis they wouldn't get such hate. Russ tends to eat a lot of hate from people despite the full context. I like what his teammate Patrick Patterson said, "No one is held accountable for their actions except for us. Fans are protected in every way possible but not us."
Also, to those defending the "fan".
Once again. Human. Garbage.

So they said it together, like a chant? Or one said it and then the other? Really seems like a weird thing to say. Then again, it's Utah.

I’m still waiting for someone to explain the racial connotation here. If anything it sounds like a homophobic remark. But maybe insults are different out west?

I would wait to hear the entire side of the story. Westbrook has a history of getting into it with fans in inappropriate ways. I heard the audio from this conversation and it appears the fan may not have said what Westbrook thought he said. Both were wrong so I am not completely defending the other guy, but this is the same player who just slapped a fan's arm a few weeks ago and was about to punch out a kid in the stands last week. He has a history of blowing up at fans. Heck, he got into some altercations with Utah fans just last year during their playoff series. Players are held to a higher standard, fair or not. Security was right there. If Westbrook thought the fan was out of line, he just needs to speak up and the fan will be kicked. Instead, he used profanity when it appeared none was used towards him and told a 100 lb woman that he would 'mess' her up. Not a good look.

I will never get the homophobic reference (may be now that I have read it from you I may) but I immediately got the racist reference in the statement of the Jazz fans. In the world of racists Blacks are seen slaves who are inherently inferior to their masters (white) and have to bend their knees as in the old days.

Skeptical that the fan actually said what Westbrook thinks he said...and skeptical that even if he did say it that he meant it as racially motivated. Until there’s more light on the matter I’m just gonna leave it at that.

It's a lifetime ban from letting him attend any event in the arena. I am frankly not surprised. Utah Jazz fans are some of the worst fans in the NBA. But good on the organisation for banning that idiot.

Shaq said he heard that stuff and worse all the time, especially in the SEC at Mississippi and Georgia and ignored it.

The best course of action would have been for Westbrook to ask the security people to remove the fan from the arena. But not all people are alike. I wish Russ handled it better but as I said it is not unexpected given the personality of Westbrook. Although many players have recounted how Jazz fans behave. Jazz crowd is a lot worse than average NBA crowd.

I forget what show I was watching, High Noon maybe. They were saying that there was evidence that this fan set this whole thing up in order to try and "get" Russ caught on tape. He had multiple friends with phones out before hand to make sure that they got this footage because this "fan" had a premeditated hatred of Russell Westbrook. Found it funny his stupid Twitter account got discovered with racist shit like I linked to above and he quickly deleted tweets and then shortly after deleted his account. Then apparently was bragging about the incident on his facebook page.

Now that all of the details are out, I take back most of what I said. The fan was completely in the wrong and I am glad he is banned. From all accounts, he seems like scum. That is why Westbrook got such a puny fine. The NBA had to do something, but they know that Westbrook was not in the wrong completely here. However, it shows a real sign of maturity to ignore comments like these and handle the situation the right way. If he simply called over security and had him removed, this would not even be a news worthy story. He lost his cool and said things he should not have said. It was unprofessional, even if he had good reason to be mad. That is really my only issue with it. Besides that, it is hard to fault Westbrook here.
