WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The equation isn’t always this simple, but it is a helpful first step if you are a major league baseball player, new in town. It is a three-part plan:
1. Look happy to be here (don’t just say, “I’m happy to be here”).
2. Treat every day in the big leagues like it may be your last day in the big leagues (don’t just say, “I want to give 110 percent every day”).
3. Embrace the grind in the way you play (don’t just say, “I like to take it one game at a time”).
It doesn’t mean you’ll own the city right away. You still have to hit higher than a buck-eighty, or throw more than mop-up slop from the mound. But, again: It’s a start.
It was a good start for Brandon Nimmo in 2018.
