Can’t speak to the current state of things but if you mean ‘ever’ then I could elaborate.

The reason it's professional is that it generates money and therrfore the participants receive regular payments to perform.
Glad I could clear that up for you.

Why ?? SAVE FERRIS You'd have to ask Shane McMahon. I kinda understand attacking the Miz, but his father? Unconscionable. I agree with the OP. Why, Shane? Why ??

You can make a professional career out of being a wrestling fan now?

I grew up watching all the time. Always enjoyed the showmanship of it and the colorful/entertaining personalities like a Macho Man Randy Savage. Add in the athleticism/drama/storytelling it's like a soap opera but with professional athletes punching each other and body slamming one another in tight colored spandex. Plus it's got some very attractive women and men for that matter that can be appealing to look at. It honestly has something in it for everybody if you're just willing to give it a chance.

I watched tons of wrestling back in the 80's. I knew it was fake, but I didn't care, it was pure enjoyment. I always rooted for the bad guys, Ric Flair, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Magnificent Muraco, The Freebirds, The Road Warriors.
It was a blast!
And truthfully, fans of the modern-day NFL really shouldn't be laughing at fake sports....wink, wink......

Watched it from 2000-2010, occasionally try to keep up online with the guys that I used to follow that are still around. When it was at its peak, it was damn good entertainment. Although a lot of people, even fans, nowadays hate it now.

If you accept that it certainly isn't "sport" and just light entertainment for a particular type of audience, where's the harm in it?

I watched a lot of wrestling in the 60's, 70's & 80's. Wrestling today doesn't compare and I've stopped watching.

the behind the scenes stories - i.e. the business aspect of it always fascinated me.
could get 'dirty' at times - i.e. during the Monday night wars with entertainers jumping ship to the other competition.
find a lot of it tragic - which fascinates me in a way (love tragic human interest stories) - like the movie 'The Wrestler' - the Scott Hall, Jake Roberts, Kamalas of the world, the tragic deaths of others - i.e. the Von Erichs, Rude, Hennig - too many to mention.
always loved the classic good guy vs. bad guy angle too - love youtubing old clips - and when that 'good guy' swerves heel - like Andre to go against Hogan - or Hogan cutting a lethal promo attacking the fans (the 2nd part of that famous promo wasn't scripted and came from Hogans heart apparently when he tells the fans they can stick it after being booed as a 'good guy' for the previous couple of years - i.e. fans were just sick of him. found the whole cycle of events - i.e. he's brought into WCW as a good guy and the fans can't stand him rather fascinating and then him swerving heel eventually.
wrestling fake? absolutely. scripted? absolutely - however the 'realness' which creeped it's way in at times just like any business is kind of what fascinated me (I don't watch today's product)
other's have made the link/connection to a soap opera - which I agree with to an extent - I look at it more like a carnival - traveling 'Carnies' and 'lifers' who care about the business.
'realness creeps into wrestling' - 4:50 of this clip Hogan starts 'shooting' about the way he's been treated by the fans over the last 2 years. Granted this heel turn was scripted and was an angle by WCW; however Hogan just started shooting and flying from the hip at 4:50 - vent up frustration of being treated like garbage by the fans:

I was always partial to Demolition, and who didn't love the Bushwhackers and Hacksaw Jim Duggan? I was 10 years old, it was terrific!

I watched from about 1994 until 2004, a nice decade.
WWF at its best was a soap opera starring stunt people. Nothing wrong with that if it's done right. Besides, the Attitude Era when I was younger was a perfect antidote for blah Mondays.

My mom actually got me watching wrestling. My mom was a fan (not a die-hard fan but a regular fan) of wrestling. When I was a kid in the 1970s, my mom watched wrestling on TV every Saturday morning. I started watching with her and became a fan. We went to several live events. That was still in the territorial days. The most popular wrestler in our territory was Pat Patterson. Besides Patterson, other wrestlers that I saw at live events were Ray Stevens, Pedro Morales, Don Muraco (that was when he was still a skinny guy and hadn't started taking steroids yet), Rocky Johnson, Tony Atlas, Harley Race. I also saw Andre the Giant and Haystacks Calhoun once at a live event.

I saw the film Fighting With My Family this afternoon. It wasn't my idea but I agreed to go along. It's about the WWE and based on a true story of a girl from Norwich (or as the American MC put it "Nor-witch, England") who goes to USA and performs. I've read good reviews on the other forums. Yeah, brah, it was okay but a bit cheesy in places especially the ending. Don't worry, nay spoilers here. I wanted to see 'Us' but will go and see that next week.
Is this the only sport or entertainment where the winner is already decided before a second of the event has taken place? And whether it is or isn't, so what? People enjoy it, they love it, so that's okay by me. Enjoy your wrestling, grapple fans.

Every election is now also rigged. In Australia we have compulsory voting with results nearly always in line with polling and you will still have idiits going on SM and shouting "rigged result," if their preferres option doesn't win. It's a new way of denying reality.
