Critic admits they're reluctant to give an honest review of Captain Marvelsome film critics have said they're having a tough time giving this film a fair and honest review.
"It puts people in a weird spot," says Semley. "As good, progressively-minded individuals we want to say, yes, we should have movies with strong female characters... but then also as critics, we're in a weird jam [because] these films aren't necessarily that good."

What's stopping them? They know Brie Larson can't really shoot fireballs from her fists right?

So when are you going to admit that you're reluctant to give a good review to MCU movies?

So when are you going to admit that you're reluctant to give a good review to MCU movies? He rated Captain Marvel a 1 and it's obvious he hasn't even seen it yet.

Actually, They were talking about initially being reluctant to give girl power movies like the all female Ghostbusters bad reviews, a few years ago. That would explain the RT score of the vastly overrated, zero acadamy award nominated, Wonder Woman.
With the advent of Captain Marvel, critics have moved past that hang-up and no longer feel compelled to give a girl power movie a good review if they think it doesn't deserve it. Which explains the 79 on RT. Many critics appear to think CM is just an average MCU movie, and they have scored it accordingly.
Once again, Always Wrong = always wrong

Once again, Always Wrong = always wrong To be fair, the environment surrounding 'Ghostbusters: Answer the Call' was quite hostile with some male critics who gave bad reviews receiving death threats.
