Three 3pm kick-offs on Saturday, which sees 12th placed Bournemouth (21/20) take on the side immediately beneath them - Newcastle (14/5) Since their 4-0 hammering of Chelsea in January the Cherries have won only one in six, away to Huddy last week but to be fair have had some challenging games v Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City in the meantime. Toon's remarkable comeback v Everton last week will spur them on at Dean Court and with just one loss in their last six outings (including the one-all friendly with CSKA last month) it might very well be Rafa's day again. Bournemouth (4 points from 18) are looking decidedly nervous these days.
Burnley (21/10) have lost their last three and Sean Dyche cannot be enjoying seeing his side just two points above the drop zone. He's looking increasingly unhinged these days, trying to maintain a relaxed veneer while his legs are paddling manically under the water. His side face Leicester (6/4) middling in 10th spot with one win and one defeat under Rodgers. House invasions aside, Rodgers mind will surely be set on taking advantage of Burnley's pathetic overall form this season.
West Ham (4/7) were useless at Cardiff last week. They simply failed to show up. But they're 9th and that's a far better place to be in than already doomed Huddersfield (11/2, with one win in 17) Looks a home banker for sure. But can Huddy show us something? Can they capitalize on West Ham's no-show last week in Wales? Will the pride factor enter into it? With most of their players (or their agents) already on the phone to any EPL club that will listen, along with estate agents' phones ringing off the wall north, south, east and west of Huddersfield, you wonder if there is actually anything left of Huddersfield Town. The Championship is a hellhole to get out of (unless you're going to League One) and at the moment Huddy appear to possess neither the bottle or the desire and general wherewithal to conquer it next season. I'll go for the draw, just for the hell of it.
Fulham (11/1) will be joining Huddy in the drop, I think we can all agree on that. Six straight EPL ass-whippings in a row sees them 13 points adrift from safety and if they did harbour any misguided thoughts of staging a miraculous survival stunt than they could have done with more favourable opponents than the visitors in the first Sunday game. Liverpool. You'll get no more than 1/4 for the Scouse win. The only hope that Fulham have is that Klopp and his lads will still be pissed up following the victory over Bayern in midweek. But I doubt it. And besides, a pissed up 'Pool eleven against a sober Fulham turn-out would still get my vote.
The second Sunday game sees Everton (a generous 3/1) entertain Chelsea (19/20) This could go either way and if that sounds like a cop-out, well, it is. I don't know how these two sides will perform from match to goddamned match in the league. Chelsea seem hell-bent on pottting the Europa League title but couldn't overcome park-the-bus-Wolves at the Bridge last week. And which Everton side will turn up is anyone's guess. Following the sterling performance in the Merseyside derby they threw away a 2 goal lead to Newcastle last week with all the recklessness and abandon of Katie Price at a Chippendales gig. I'll go the away but I'm chancing it.
That's your lot, apart from some FA Cup games, four this weekend.
