What movies that were massive and successful at the box office have we forgotten about, really have little cultural impact overall, or are rarely ever discussed nowadays?

2012 (2009) made tons of cash at the box office, but like a fart, it lingered a bit and caused a stir, only to fade away and be forgotten.

Avatar is the biggie (aside from derision); San Andreas; The Mummy 3; Happy Feet (remember it won best animated feature); War of the Worlds; Troy (made more money than Gladiator).

Avatar's forgotten? (Since I've never liked it, I wish it were, but that's beside the point.) Most people I know seem to remember it very well, those innumerable sequels are still due to come out, and Disney is blowing a load of money making "Avatar-land" in Florida.

Superman returns, cutthroat island, the amazing Spider-Man, speed racer I've actually never seen Cutthroat Island, though I know it's one of the biggest bombs of all time. (Actually, reminds me of the kinda movie I'd like, though.) As for Superman Returns, maybe, but I don't remember its being that big of a splash even when it was released, though. I still find it perhaps the most underrated superhero movie of all time. The Amazing Spider-Man, definitely. There was so much put into it, and it was just something of a dud, forgettable and therefore soon forgotten. Actually, there are surprisingly many blockbusters that just seem to have been forgotten. The remakes of Get Smart and Underdog, which I saw at a drive-in one summer (and mentioned on another thread), have been nearly completely forgotten. In fact, I only remember them because I did see them at that drive-in.

I don't exactly see Antz (1998) mentioned very often.

I don't exactly see Antz (1998) mentioned very often. Gee, I'd completely forgotten about that movie! (Appropriate for this thread's theme, eh?) The last time I saw it mentioned, actually, was in connection with the folks who think they saw a movie with the comedian "Sinbad," called Shazaam, which doesn't exist (the so-called "Mandela Effect"). The writer of the article was trying to make the point that, if the movie A Bug's Life disappeared tomorrow, everyone would think anyone talking about it actually meant Antz. Similarly, the writer argued, the people who are told they're actually remembering the genie movie Kazaam, with Shaquille O'Neill, aren't automatically incorrect just because there's a vey similar movie. (The website "College Humor," by the way, revitalized that subject when they made a fake version of a scene from the imaginary Shazaam that is actually surprisingly clever, with numerous subtle references to other "Mandela Effect" subjects.)

I'm not entirely certain how forgotten these films are, but films I think fit this category are: V for Vendetta King Kong (2005) Twister Although both King Kong & Twister probably got some mentions recently due to the release of a new Kong film and the passing of Bill Paxton.

Rocky III and IV Predator (the reboot has helped) Spider-Man (2002) Even Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is underrated and unknown by younger movie lovers today.

2012 (2009) made tons of cash at the box office, but like a fart, it lingered a bit and caused a stir, only to fade away and be forgotten. Hell, you are right as i just checked on it and that made $769.7mil worldwide! ; but only $166.1mil of that figure was in the USA. so it was mostly a foreign success as that's what really elevated it's $$$. i would have never guessed that made that kind of money. but i suspect it might have played to those who bought into the whole 'end of the world' BS in 2012(?). so in terms of those movies that made $750mil+ worldwide i can't imagine this movie being topped in how forgotten it is. but it's not surprising as the movie is forgettable (like most movies in general).
