I agree that John Mahoney was more deserving than Vincent Gardenia in Moonstruck.

Douglas was co-lead with Sheen in Wall Street Charlie Sheen is the main character, Michael Douglas is not. He is very important to the story, but has noticeably less focus than Sheen's character.

Do you consider Denzel and Day-Lewis Supporting in Training Day/Gangs of New York? I'd need to re-watch those, but I remember Denzel being in almost every scene in Training Day. Same with Tom Cruise in Collateral. He shows up 15 minutes into the movie, but once he shows up he is in almost every scene. Daniel Day-Lewis I'm not so sure about. I just re-watched Wall Street. Charlie Sheen is in almost every scene. Michael Douglas is absent from many scenes. Why do you ask? I agree with you that Jake Gyllenhaal is co-lead in Brokeback Mountain btw.

They feel of the same ilk where there's a "main character", but they're boring and the movie is obviously more interested in their villainous mentor. Last King of Scotland/Whitaker is another example. But I've only seen Wall Street once and don't especially remember all the details, so I wouldn't fight to the death over it or anything. And that's nice. You gonna adjust your 2005 Actor list then?

I even think a case can be made for Brad Pitt being supporting in Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood. I actually disagree that Wall Street is more interested in the villain. Ethan Hawke isn't given nearly as much character development as Charlie Sheen's character in Wall Street. Ethan Hawke's performance is far superior, but Charlie Sheen's character is much better written. In Training Day his character is basically just along for the ride.

All recognition he was given for the role, made him lead and I know I have never questioned his status as a leading presence here. His lead Oscar win even confirms that. He was more support in Wall Street Money Never Sleeps. Would you say Hopkins was lead or support in Silence Of The Lambs?
