The big thing that bothers me about this merger (other than all the people who got laid off) is that it means there will inevitably be less variety for the kinds of movies we’ll be seeing moving forward. I get that Disney is supposedly going to continue to release films under the 20th Century Fox banner, but there’s no way we’re going to be seeing the same amount of films in theaters as we used to when 20th Century Fox and Disney were separate. Anyway, I’m predicting that this merger will have negative ramifications for the film industry as a whole. A single studio owning 40% of the market share is not good for business. Isn't that a good thing maybe? Being more selective leaves less room for crap like The Predator, Alien Covenant, Independence Day Resurgence, X-Men Apocalypse, Fant4stic, those lousy Die Hard sequels, etc. Besides, they never really had that high of an output of movies anyway, releasing anywhere from 15-20 movies a year at most, half of or most of which were crap. What about Fox Searchlight?

Who thinks The Fantastic Four fits in the MCU? i mean they were better off with Marvel than Fox anyway.
I mean MCU could use Dr Doom and Galactus.

What about Fox Searchlight? I'm sure Disney will still release films under the both the Fox and Fox Searchlight banners just like they did during the old Touchstone/Hollywood Pictures/Miramax days. Smaller independent films don't really require high budgets, so I'm guessing their output won't be affected, hopefully.

How does a 39-second clip from a single film made in 2017 typify the entire run of Fox Studios X-Men movies? No worries, the question is rhetorical; however, this Fox Studios highlight reel could have used a few more clips from other entries.

Fox was gonna sell anyway. What's the difference between any other movie studio getting Fox. You'd still get less movies. Oh, believe me, I would’ve had a problem with this merger if any other major studio got Fox as well. That’s why I wish that Fox wasn’t selling to begin with. But that wasn't an option. They were gonna sell or shut it down. Which do you think is worse: shutting down and everyone losing their job or selling and some keeping their job?

The irony is that we wouldn't have gotten that "X-men" from Fox again either. We get Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

Rupert Murdoch decided to sell off 20th Century Fox because he wanted his company to be squarely focused on its news and sports divisions. I blame him for this.

Mickey wasting no time. Massive layoffs hit Fox today. First wave cuts are SVP, EVP, and president level. Those guys will land on their feet. It's second and third wave cuts that will be horrific.

That's just 1 movie out of 11 X-Men movies, the darn best one, but still. Besides, if you take out the Deadpool series and Wolverine series, and focus strictly on X-Men, there's never been a R rated X-Men movie.

Mickey wasting no time. Massive layoffs hit Fox today. DESPICABLE. It's not as if they didn't know what was happening. And all those lay-offs were not just Fox employees...a large chunk are/will be Disney employees. It happens in almost all mergers & acquisitions. Had FOX not found a buyer they were going to close down the film studio. Had Comcast bought Fox there would also have been lay-offs. It was inevitable regardless of who did or did not purchase it. The people to blame for this are FOX. They new there would be a significant loss of jobs, but continued to seek a deal anyway so they could invest further and increase the coverage/power of their news organisations.

The people to blame for this are FOX. You have no proof that would happen if Disney hadn't bought Fox. It's Disney's greed to have a monopoly that is to blame for those thousands of people losing their jobs.

And if you want to talk greed why are you ignoring Fox themselves? Fox/The Murdoch's sell an asset for billions, but also the major shareholders receive shares in Disney. Fox shareholders are expected to own around a 25% stake in Disney from the deal. And all this they did in the full knowledge that there would be job losses. Stop being a blinkered fucktard and do some reading and perhaps also have an idea of what has and does go on in the real world
