COULD ONLY PICK 5 AND SOME ARE REALLY GOOD......
James Stewart /The Philadelphia Story --- only because he gave dozens of better performances Gary Cooper /High Noon --- only because Kirk should have won in one of my favourites - The Bad and the Beautiful Lee Marvin / Cat Ballou - good actor but surely the weakest of the nominees that year Cliff Robertson / Charly ---O'TOOLE!!! Roberto Benigni /Life Is Beautiful

Cant really do 10 on this one, because I'd have to start picking performances I like a lot. Even these one's are all still good.
Art Carney - Harry and Tonto Gary Cooper - High Noon John Wayne - True Grit Jean Dujardin - The Artist Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything

I haven't seen two or three of the very early winners, whose reputations are not good, so this list could change one day...
- Gary Oldman, Darkest Hour
- Henry Fonda, On Golden Pond **it hurts to pick him as worst of anything, but really, this win was awful...
- Jack Lemmon, Save the Tiger **see above
- Al Pacino, Scent of a Woman
- Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club
- Rami Malek, Bohemian Rhapsody
- Gary Cooper, Sergeant York
- Eddie Redmayne, The Theory of Everything
- Ronald Colman, A Double Life **and again
- Geoffrey Rush, Shine

Tom Hanks in Philadelphia
Geez, you had Anthony Hopkins for Remains of the Day OR alternatively Liam Neeson in Schindler's List.
Michael Douglas in Wall Street
The other contenders weren't all that amazing (maybe William Hurt in Broadcast News) but I just really don't like Wall Street.
Henry Fonda in On Golden Pond;
I would have gone with Beatty in Reds
Popeye: Who would you have gone with in '59? I personally think the Academy made the right decision with Heston, but man, that was a strong year.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Paul Newman for The Color of Money.

Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything (beat Keaton, don't like him) Sean Penn - Milk (beat Roarke, OTT portrayal) Leonardo DiCaprio - The Revenant (one-note) John Wayne - True Grit (Wayne being Wayne) Anthony Hopkins - Silence of the Lambs (category fraud) James Stewart - The Philadelphia Story (didn't do anything) Charlton Heston - Ben-Hur (forgettable) Gene Hackman - The French Connection (good, but Oscar worthy?) Michael Douglas - Wall Street (same as Hackman) Colin Firth - The King's Speech (so Oscar beggy that it's kinda offputting)
