The first night of the year that AFL and Rugby League are head to head! The AFL are giving us premiership favourites Richmond against wooden spoon contenders Carlton and..Yikes! Richmond leading 41-7 early in the second quarter.
In the NRL we have the Russell Crowe owned South Sydney playing the hopelessly injury riddled St George. Saints bombed a try early and Souths just went in. 4-0 Bunnies with a conversion attempt to come.

Dragons tie it up with a converted try. 2 quick goals to Carlton cuts Richmond's lead to 20.

Dragons give up another try. Looking pretty ragged down 16-12. Catlton have pulled within 13 of Richmond. Think I'll watch that instead. League could get ugly.

I'm going to stay here and fight for this lost cause! I don't know if I'm referring to Oz football codes having a presence on this board or St Grorge's season, but fight I will!!

I would have figured surfing was big down there
What about big game hunting - i.e. great white sharks - is that allowed?

Surfing's big here. Doesn't get huge ratings but most people are aware of who the big Aussie names are. Not a pot of game hunting in Oz, though shark and kangaroo culls are common. Two animals there will never be a shortage of down here.

There's the Lithgow Panther, supp)osedly spotted years ago by hunters. At least a couple of times a year someone will claim to have seen it.
Less localised myths around bunyips and yowies, weird giant hybruds who hang out in billabongs and the outback, and of course Drop Bears.
Some of the true events Wolf Creek was based on was the Backpacker murders not far from here. Just google "Ivan Milat."

Ergh - missed the lot due to work. I thought Souths were very impressive. Saints - when the rotating playmakers bit fully gels, I reckon they can give the whole comp a shake. They’ll go much better when Frizzell and (maybe) De Belin come back. Carlton threw that game away. Wasn’t overly impressed with Richmond either. Australian Wildlife - here on the Central Coast (90 mins north of Sydney), we get much the same as the blue mountains, with the added delights of sea gulls and cockatoos. We’ve also got a flock of native finches around my place, some of which are very beautiful. Thankfully, I haven’t seen a bin chicken on the central coast yet. theconversation.com/friday-essay-the-rise-of-the-bin-chicken-a-totem-for-modern-australia-100673Of all my trips to the beach, never seen a white shark ever. Saw a red bellied snake at work just the other day. Spiders are everywhere. Especially when it rains - they love coming inside out of the rain......
