You can have pg13 versions of those movies and it wouldn't matter. Probably the only scene I can think of is the OD and gimp scenes in Pulp Fiction. Sex scenes you can imply. If you can edit a movie for tv then the R is not integral. Yes, it would matter. Those films AREN'T MEANT FOR CHILDREN because of their subject matter and content. If the filmmakers intended to have the violence, gore, sex, and profanity to be integral in their films, they shouldn't be censored. But that's what I'm saying, just having a sex scene or having characters cuss doesn't mean it was integral to the movie. Most times its gratuitous just to be R.

Of course, PG-13 is not going to do him any justice - not to say he cannot appear in any PG-13 rated DC movies before or after but for his own movie yes definitely R.

I do agree that violence, sex, and profanity tend to be gratuitous in R rated films. There have been a ton of films where they have characters cussing, having sex, and engaging in ghastly violence just because. It can get excessive, at times. But sometimes, depending on the nature and atmosphere of the films, these elements can be relevant to the stories.

A PG-13 rating would limit Lobo. I don't mind if he showed up in other films that happen to be PG-13 rated. But in terms of his own films, they have to be R rated due to his ultra-violent and extremely vulgar nature.

Reading some of these threads about the new Suicide Squad film being rebooted, I wonder if WB will give the film a more restricted rating. After Suicide Squad had obtained a PG-13 rating, a lot of debate had occurred on whether the MPAA should add a new rating that stands between PG-13 and R or not, and how Hollywood is heavily relying too much on the PG-13 rating. The film was originally shot with the intention of being darker and aimed at adults. But after the BvS debacle, they caved and decided to do reshoots in order to make the film extremely light in tone and funny. Even though the film made over $800 million worldwide and is rated PG-13, for some reason, WB felt that there was no need to make a sequel and decided to make a soft reboot with a new director instead. I still find that questionable and crazy. With this reboot, it begs the question if they're going to go PG-13 again or go R rated since they're kind of doing do-overs with Suicide Squad?

Hopefully, if WB ever comes around to it, they don't chicken out and try to give it a lower rating. The PG-13 is the sweet spot for Hollywood for sure BUT it shouldn't be applied to every single type of movie.

I can't tell you how DISAPPOINTED I was when I heard that Sony basically backpedaled and made Venom PG-13 rated. I was so DISAPPOINTED that I didn't care to watch the film and I still haven't. They SHOULDN'T HAVE LIED and just stated that they were making a PG-13 rated Venom from the get-go. Why even state the film was going to be aimed at adults and NOT follow through with it?

It’s not a good film mind you, but it is fun to rip on and make fun of. If that interests you, then I would give it one go.

Maybe someday, I'll watch it. Still, the fact that it's not the film that we were promised and it's straight up watered down makes me less likely to watch it.

From what I've seen and read about The Joker, unless they chicken out, WB is aiming for an R rating. Perhaps, they are somewhat open to making at least some of the DC films R rated. Who knows? Maybe a Lobo film isn't too far off. What do you guys think?

An R rated Lobo film would be an ideal project for Gunn.
