Kind of hypocrital that you say MCU films are kiddie, and the moment the DCEU releases a kiddie film, you bask in its glory. It's what these guys do. Marvel is kiddie until DC puts out a film for kids. Marvel has too much comedy, but Captain Marvel should smile more. The CGI rhinos in Black Panther were lame but the sharks and seahorses in Aquaman were genius. Marvel villains are forgettable but let's not talk about BvS Lex or whoever the villain was in Suicide Squad. Marvel has a diversity problem, but it's politics that got BP to $1B and a best picture nod. The critics were paid to give poor ratings to DC movies until the films score well with critics, etc. And Shazam only did moderate on its opening weekend compared to Captain Marvel. Maybe WB should buy empty seats in the theaters so Shazam can also reach $1 billion.

Why do people care so much about the score on Rotten Tomatoes?

You might want to read the rules again.

I thought it was decent. RT score I don't care about. Shazam was okay. (by the way if this seems off-topic for the question, frankly I'll take the criticism. I don't know where or with whom else to talk about this movie) I thought it was interesting. I know of the character, but nothing else like his foster home situation, or his origin. This is all new to me right down to the family with whom he shares his powers. It's a palette cleanser for me that his powers are magical. I enjoy very much when powers come from a logical place, and I guess I've been spoiled by it long enough that a return to magic seemed refreshing. I also got the sense that Shazam's identity is connected with his powers. He says his name and then he changes. He's run from foster home to foster home, county to county his whole young life. Whether he's changing from Shazam to Billy or Billy to Shazam, I think the theme of his character is running away. Maybe it's not, and maybe it's just the actor, but I got the vibe a few times that the ability to change who he is at a whim is him all over. It's not just about wanting to be a superhero; it's about wanting to be anybody but himself, if only for a minute's peace from his otherwise shit-fucking life. I also liked that the villain's pursuit of power began with the need for vindication. From his father, from his brother. Even though it's clearly and proudly DC material, I haven't felt this detached from the MCU/DCEU vibe since Umbrella Academy. I walked out of the theater thinking Shazam was acceptable and not a single compliment more. But I guess it's grown on me.

Ze McMarvel filmen-movie ist for ze kiddies, so ja. Ist not gud, just for ze Pfefferkuchen und ze Droppelbären. Shazam is made for kids. The hero is a 15 yr old boy who gains an adult body but is still mentally 15. The kid's family of foster kids become the Marvel family of heroes so even younger. The youngest reveals her secret identity to a mall Santa because she believes it is really Santa NEIN! Du givst ze spoilers, ahh? Ist UNTLY ze Pfefferkuchen und ze Droppelbären Gefährten who do zat! Nein is gut!
