I don't think that A&W is wholly defunct, but it has been taken into the mega conglomerate that runs KFC, Taco Bell ... and, possibly more. And, there are very few of that, particular, franchise left. I loved it, when I was in college in the 60's. (Hey, we were young, and poor. ) There were two that were very near our campus, a sorority sister worked at one of them. Several of us could chip-in $.50/$1.00, and she would bring home a "submarine" sandwich that was delicious, and could be sliced to feed a crowd. "Papa Burgers," and "Mama Burgers," were also great! The last time that I had a burger from A&W, was about 10 years ago. It was just a burger. Things change.

Here in the Montreal area (I don't know about the rest of Quebec or Canada) A&W has expanded exponentially in the past two or three years. They are everywhere now.

Happy Chef has one remaining location. I hope it stays in business, and that it someday returns to having a vast chain.

Lums, I used to go to a local Lums all the time, it was when I could still eat fish & seafood. I liked their shrimp dinner, they also had several other dinners I enjoyed. Lums also served beer from around the world. They were famous for their beer soaked hot dogs. It was a nice family restaurant that was very popular in the 70's.

I forgot about Fresh Choice. You could build a great salad, add bread/bun, and beverage (wine, for me), at a very reasonable price. It was, also, at Fresh Choice, that I experienced a mixed-blessing, emotionally. At 55, one was considered to be a "senior citizen," and reaped the financial benefit ... but, I was far too young for that designation!

I remember eating there once back in the early 90's and the place used to have so much hype but I can't really remember how good Sizzler was.
I wish they would bring back Sizzler to the north east. Living here in South Jersey and according to their website location finder, the closest one is just off of route 4 in Kissimmee Florida. Just a few miles south west of Disney World! I would eat there again, but i'm not keen on driving 1,064 miles!
What's interesting is that there is nothing east of Florida, and that one location sits down there near Orlando all by it's lonesome and the rest of the locations are mostly jammed together in California. After Florida, the next one you hit is in New Mexico.

Those hot dogs sound good! looks like other folks were fans of the Bennigans tater skins: 🥔 🧀 🎈!! www.keyingredient.com/recipes/158162/bennigans-potato-skins/going to have to make this weekend.

I was thinking Brown's Chicken. They had the best fried chicken and fried mushrooms. Looking them up, I guess they're still around. Just not here. :-(

Sadly, that is their only east coast location. I'm going to have to eat at one when i go back to my california hometown in august. I left Washington state for Pennsylvania in August 2017. I had a sizzler about a mile from the apartment i moved out of. My friends out here in pa were in complete shock to find out it still even existed
