I hate the Vader fight. It felt like a fan film. If he is this all powerful sith lord why does he get his hands dirty killing all those rebels? Why not leave it to the stormtroopers? Or just give them a choke hold and be done with it? In the originals he only brought out the light saber to fight a Jedi, yet there he is using it to kill all those rebel scum. I liked the scene, though it does make me question the consistency of the movies. Wasn't the mechanical suit supposed to limit his use of the force? I know with the suit he can't shoot force lightning (his metal suit would get fried), though other than that he still seems to be able to use the force just fine (force grab, laser deflection). The lightsaber fight between him and Obi Wan in A New Hope was rather slow and less flashy compared to other lightsaber fights, which makes sense (an old man vs a heavy, clumsy cyborg). But if age is a factor, how is 900 year old Yoda doing backflips and lightsaber ballet in the prequels? The real answer is simply that the choreography and effects surpassed that of the 1970s tenfold...so doing a prequel they had to make a choice to be held to the standards they set in the 70s and make a less flashy action sequence or turn a blind eye to some minor inconsistencies. I’m glad they made an entertaining movie. |

Rogue One was the one bright spot (outside of the Force Awakens up until the point where Kylo removes his mask) in the Disney Star Wars releases. I'd personally prefer to see more films set in the early years of the Empire than anything post Return of the Jedi. It be interesting to see the Rebel Alliance being formed.

I would like to see some sort of prequel that takes place between ROTS and New Hope that focuses on Vader and what he was doing in that time between the two movies. It could expand on his relationship with Palpatine and Tarkin, lament on the loss of Padme, become more and more tyranical as the Emprie expands it's influence. I totally second this!

I think that that part at the end when Darth Vader ignites his lightsaber and then kills all of those Rebel Crewmen in the Hallway was what really put the Last Act of "ROGUE ONE" over the top when it comes to being AWESOME!
