The only thing that stood out was the last scene. It was quiet touching and sad. Very different than the ending in the original.

I remember my first impression being that the fight scenes were really well done. I had no idea Josh Brolin could kick so much ass...really wasn't expecting that.
For me this is a good remake, and brought some new stuff to the table while paying homage to the original. I enjoyed both, but was pleasantly surprised with the 2013 version.

It felt very watered down in contrast to the original. There was no narration of any sort and no character depth. The original attempted to show how he mentally became as a person from being confined for so many years. His adventures and journey with connecting with the real world was explored.

I am not even a fan of the original but this version certainly made me appreciate the original a lot more.
This version lacks any real emotion whatsoever, Copley was awful and the movie has scenes that are unintentionally hilarious. This one feels like a parody of the original in fact and the fact that they made it one big incestuous family was very distasteful and removes the innocence of the original brother sister relationship. The scene when he kills his family is so poorly done it is embarrassing. Everything is overkill in this one.
On the plus side I think Brolin is good and Olson does what she can.

wasn't there an issue between the studio and spike lee over the final edit?
