Aquaman. Much more likable hero, more interesting villain, better action sequences and visually it was drastically more impressive. Also the hero had a properly fleshed out backstory with an emotional arc unlike Carol.

Aquaman was pretty ridiculous but highly enjoyable. Captain Marvel I think is tighter and propped up by a better universe. The MCU movies tend to win out for me in the long run because they have a bigger, better series to fit into. Captain Marvel takes it for me, but let it not be said Aquaman wasn't a blast. Better or worse is for the experts, but I was still enjoying Aquaman an hour after I left the theater.
I go back and forth on Brie Larson as Captain Marvel depending on the day of the week, but I'm without dispute that Momoa was a great choice. Most of the movie was watching Jason Momoa play Jason Momoa being Aquaman.

It's a tough call because both succeed at different things, but mostly fail in similar ways.
Directing; Aquaman wins easily. Wan shows his talent, at least visually.
Writing: Both kind of fail here for having weak characterization and messy stories as well as pay offs that are mostly unearned.
Visuals: Easy win for Aquaman
Plot: Captain Marvel wins for being far more coherent and structured.
Cast: Both leads are miscast in my opinion. Supporting casts are stellar. (Except for Heard)
I guess Aquaman wins overall, simply because it's a more memorable experience. At least its distinctive, while Captain Marvel was kind of forgettable.

Aquaman is definitely a better movie. Captain Marvel is just a godawful movie. The writing is lazy and contrived. Oh I don't know....stealing the origin of a similar Marvel character was rather lazy by the Aquaman writers. And let's not get started on the Sahara Ocean. And one thing CM way surpassed Aquaman on for sure...the use of "popular" music. Pitbull's version of Africa just slapped in there...what the fuck was that about

I think I'm going to give DC a pity vote and pick Aquaman over Captain Marvel.
Overall, CM is a better movie, but I had more fun with Aquaman.
... and, honestly, I've come to expect more from the MCU and far less from DC. So there's that expectation thing also helping Aquaman.

The first half of the movie keeps jumping from 1 place to another place without any transition at all and is just a disjointed and convoluted mess. Karl Drogo's performance is wooden and robotic. And there's no character development or personality to the Arthur Curry / Aquaman character.

Aquaman is definitely a better movie. Brie Larson's performance is wooden and robotic. You seem to have forgotten Amber Heard was in Aquaman, and the lead was a Mutant Ninja Turtle in human form

Both movies are completely average. I GUESS Captain Marvel is better. Both are so generic and forgettable.
