The Oscar Jinx, said to have put the whammy on certain winners since the 1930s, Fact or Fiction ?
"In 1936 and 1937 Louis Rainer won back to back Best Actress awards. She then finished five mediocre movies in the next year and, except for one film in 1943, promptly disappeared from the screen. Some said it was a series of bad choices of movies that made her career to collapse. Others blamed the mysterious jinx, and she herself said 'Those two Academy Awards I got were bad for me . I later did one bad film. I was treated as if I had never done anything good in my life'."

George Chakiris' career didn't exactly take off after his Supporting Actor win for West Side Story (1961). He had retired from movies by the end of that decade except for two film appearances in the intervening years until now.

OK ! how about Rita Moreno and West Side Story never built anything upon it, because she had so many other engagements. I thoyght she had Broadway assignments, while researching, with dear Rita still among us,
Was the special engagements cuddling with Marlon Brando for 8 years?

no jinx. there are only - 1 poor career decisions 2 poor personal decisions 3 bad luck (more important a factor than many think) Yeah, some of the offers went off the rails for those ppl. Some of those awards were for flash in the pan performances anyways - Gooding Jr, Basinger...

Some have poor agents. Some what don't want to pursue their career anymore. Some make poor decisions. Some won the Oscar because of personal qualities that fit that story--and ONLY that story--Harold Russell (1947) Many go on to have stellar careers because of their Oscars.
Some should never have won an Oscar in the FIRST PLACE.
