kuatorises You don't think that Percy Wetmore was a villain in The Green Mile ? You don't think that he really enjoyed the power over others that his job provided him? . Oh no, that's all definitely true. I think I misunderstood the thread. By "just doing their job" I thought that meant they weren't necessarily really a bad guy, just someone in a situation they couldn't help. Might like it, but just a victim of the situation. I get you now. Percy was definitely a scumbag who liked hurting people.

McMurphy caused more damage than Ratched. Absolutely. She is one of the unsung heroines of American movies, if only for settling the odious Nicholson's hash. Yeah, that's a no from me. McMurphy was a piece of shit though. The only reason people chose him over Ratched is because she represents "the man". People are anti-authority, even when it's unwarranted. She wasn't likable, but she's easily the lesser of two evils between the two. He raped a girl and then lied about being insane to get out of prison. Fucking dirtbag. Then he breaks out with a bunch of mentally ill people, "breaks in" the hookers and booze... Everything that happened is his fault.

This is what Louise Fletcher said about Nurse Ratched: "Life had stopped for her a long time ago. She was so out of touch with her feelings that she had no joy in her life and no concept of the fact that she could be wrong. She delivered her care of her insane patients in a killing manner, but she was convinced she was right."
Fletcher came to the attention of director Milos Forman, who was casting the difficult role of the nurse in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). She won the role -- and then the Academy Award -- portraying deadly, inflexible Nurse Ratched.
[2012, on why she can no longer bear to watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)] "I find it too painful. ... I can't watch movies that are inhumane. I was really shocked i n those scenes where I was actually so cruel."
Louise Fletcher was so upset with the fact that the other cast members could laugh and be happy, while she had to be so cold and heartless, that near the end of production, she removed her dress, and stood in only her panties, to prove to the cast members she was not "a cold-hearted monster".
In later interviews, Louise Fletcher said that she found ways to make her character human, yet remain unsympathetic, ultimately deciding that Nurse Ratched actually did care about the patients, and felt she was doing what was best for them, but was ultimately misguided and drunk on her own power.

Before he was Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker... ...Richard Kiel was Rease in Silver Streak. So described by his boss, Mr. Devereau (Patrick McGoohan): "Reace, he's like a child. You must remember him: a large man with not-very-attractive dental work. He works for me. He's my chauffeur. Not very bright, but extremely loyal." Speaking of McGoohan, he's a good contender for this category in another role of that nature: the icy prison warden in Escape from Alcatraz, who seems to like being just a little more tough with some of the inmates than his position really demands.

Vincent Price as Matthew Hopkins in ‘Witchfinder General’. Someone who definitely enjoyed the perks of their job way more than they should.
