So, with the fantastic director Rian Johnson (director of the legendary episode of Breaking Bad, Ozymandius) at the helm, will the sequel in this new trilogy improve upon it's predecessor or continue the path of bad writing and rehashed material?

I voted for "It will be the same", but I'm happy with the 2 films we've had from Disney so far.

I voted better because there's no way it could be worse than TFA. Also I'm a big fan of Rian Johnson.

Doubtful. The whole thing is already poisoned by TFA, as are the original six films if taken in context of TFA.

The Force Awakens was a trial run and was a good ride while it lasted. But I am excited for what Johnson is going to do.

I assume you mean better/worse than The Force Awakens. I think it'll be as good as.

I assume you mean better/worse than The Force Awakens. I think it'll be as atrocious, but Hamill's performance will be great FIFY

Doubtful. TFA was such a fantastic film that any follow-up is going to be weak by comparison Yeah, I guess, but I'm still optimistic

i think it will be fine, even if you hated TFA, they still manage to set up some decent characters, plus Luke is back, can't be all bad

Im just hoping it will be better. Force Awakens is my least favorite of the seven films.

More bad writing and rehashed material, just by virtue of following TFA. Only reason it can't be worse is because it's already at the nadir. But people will eat it up.
Of course I'm not going to watch it.

Johnson just said it won't be a rehash of ESB, so that's promising?

Disney demands generic scripts that will sell toys.
Unleashing a director no matter how talented they maybe, to do and go whereever they please is just not going to happen, the first two pieces of corporate film making will be followed by exactly the same. Formula = $$$
