Order has no significance.
1. Chrissie Hynde
2. Robert Plant
3. Jim Morrison
4. Freddie Mercury
5. Chris Isaak
6. Paul McCartney
7. Elvis Presley
8. David Byrne
9. Roy Orbison
10. Michael Stipe
There are so many others I love, though. Ray Davies, Debby Harry, Chris Martin, John Lennon, Grace Slick... Voices from the 50's had the best quality but voices from later had more character.

I'm pretty sure no one actually thinks Bob Dylan is a "great singer." He's a poet and a storyteller, but the fact that he can pull it off with such a horrible singing voice is what makes him Bob Dylan. Depends on how we're defining "great singer." I'd say Dylan was a great singer with an ugly voice. Part of great singing is telling the story with your voice, and he did that better than 99% of singers with pretty voices and classically great technique. It's the same artistry that Maria Callas had.

Same can be said about Lou Reed, Elvis Costello and many other "marmite" voices. Some I admire Kevin Coyne Jackie Leven David Tibet (can't out marmite that one) Bevis Frond (nick Saloman) Robert Wyatt Tom Waits Diamonds Galas Stiv Bators
All opinions though isn't it. I believe some people even manage to listen to Geddy Lee.

I believe some people even manage to listen to Geddy Lee. I wouldn't say Geddy is a great singer, but he had a really cool voice once upon a time. I can't imagine anyone else singing The Temples of Syrinx... nor would I want to.

I should have been surprised to see him on a list or two in this thread, but somehow I wasn't. Dylan and Young might be good performers, but definitely not great singers, and I'd be willing to bet that neither one would disagree. I can totally see Dylan saying, "Yeah, I don't get it either..."
